Job description

  • APS 6 - $85,833 - $97,454 per annum plus superannuation
  • Legal & Governance Division
  • Canberra, ACT
Work with us right around Australia to protect this beautiful country from biosecurity risks, building more sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry, and contributing to a prosperous future. We focus on engaging in authentic consultation with First Nations Australians and seek to embrace and learn from their traditional knowledge. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) operates all over Australia. We connect with industries and communities in a large number of cities and regions. Our footprint enables our staff to work with us and stay connected with their local communities. Diversity is one of our department’s core values, and we work hard to maintain an environment where people feel safe to bring their authentic selves to work. We are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse and inclusive workforce where staff are well supported. DAFF’s inclusion networks play a critical role to achieving this. Our First Nations Staff Network provides support and guidance to our Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander staff in a culturally safe environment. This contributes towards opportunities for effective consultation, collaboration and engagement with our staff and leaders.

Who we are
The Governance Branches are responsible for managing the workflow between the department and the responsible portfolio ministers, as well as providing them with practical support arrangements. A key deliverable is to establish and maintain strong relationships between ministers and their offices, the senior executive and the broader department.

The Job
The successful applicant will be part of a busy team with a strong client service focus to deliver high quality, responsive parliamentary business services for the portfolio ministers, the executive and coordination across the broader department. We are seeking an experienced ministerial and parliamentary officer with transferrable skills who can carry out duties such as:
  • leading quality assurance and processing of ministerial briefs submissions and correspondence
  • management and oversight of senate estimates briefs and hearings
  • tracking and reporting of parliamentary inquiries, including facilitating tabling of department led government responses
  • ministerial office support and administration
  • Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS) administration, training and reporting
  • Cabinet Liaison Officer (CLO) roles
  • co-ordination of departmental briefs, responses or correspondence involving information across multiple divisions within the organisation.
Please note that two online information sessions will be held to answer any questions you may have about the role: Monday 5 December from 12 - 1 pm (ADST) and Monday 12 December from 12 - 1 pm (ADST). If you would like to attend, please contact Aboriginal Employment Strategy via email at talent@aes.org.au and they will provide further details.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
Knowledge of parliamentary processes, systems and operations and substantial experience in a Ministerial or Parliamentary team or transferrable skills are highly desirable.
