About the role
The People & Culture Business Partner is a trusted adviser to Sydney Catholic Schools (“SCS”) internal departments and schools and provides professional advice, assistance, operational support and case management on a wide range of human resources and employment relations matters. Complex enquiries are escalated from our P&C Services team to our P&C Business Partners, who also work closely on key P&C projects with our Workplace Relations team.
Major Accountabilities
The P&C Business Partner is required to perform tasks that include but are not limited to;
undertaking case management in accordance with legislative requirements and SCS policies. Casework activities may include:
providing advice and support to leaders regarding the management of unsatisfactory performance and/or misconduct issues in the workplace
managing ill and injured workers in consultation with the P&C Wellbeing team
conducting investigations in consultation with the Governance, Child Protection and Legal teams and the School Operation Unit
facilitating the resolution of workplace complaints, grievances and/or disputes
leading restructures including school expansions and amalgamations
responding to school-level matters raised by the union
interpreting employment legislation and industrial instruments
coaching leaders and managers in their application of employment relations policies and the management of human resources processes
building and maintaining effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
promoting and encouraging relevant employment programs aligned with SCS strategy and P&C business plan
identifying ways of improving human resources capability, practices and processes and escalating with appropriate stakeholders for implementation
evaluating the effectiveness of human resources policies and practices and recommending changes and enhancements as identified.
About you
To be successful in this position, you must possess:
tertiary qualification/s in Industrial Relations, Human Resources Management, Business, Commerce or other relevant fields or at least five years post qualified experience
prior experience in a human resources consultative or business partner role in a large, complex and diverse organisation
excellent time management and organisational skills including the ability to manage competing priorities
excellent written communication skills including high attention to detail and the ability to write non-standard correspondence
sound understanding of the Australian employment relations regulatory environment
sound knowledge of human resources principles and practice
sound understanding of employment frameworks e.g. industry legislation, awards, enterprise agreements
ability to travel to schools within the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney.
