About the Role

The Perpetrator Intervention Facilitator is responsible for providing and coordinating a range of Domestic & Family Violence services to at risk of or experiencing and or perpetrating domestic and family violence.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Therapeutic intervention counselling services with a focus on the perpetrator of Domestic Family Violence and including: Intimate Partner Violence, trauma, addictions and other relevant presenting co morbidities
  • Develop, plan, and implement psycho-educational programs relevant to current trends, focused on families and individuals affected, and or perpetrating domestic and family violence.
  • Implement Service system collaborative activities to educate and build capacity of local community members to respond and foster confidence and understanding of behaviors relating to the “cycle of violence” with families and individuals experiencing or perpetrating domestic and family violence.
  • Contribute to crisis responses, including referrals and supporting staff and perpetrators to access Men’s Behavior Change Groups or other referrals as required. Conducting intakes, risk assessments, review of orders, for all stakeholders including families, individuals, Government and non- Government organizations ensuring consistent communication with relevant statutory government agencies in accordance with funding guidelines.
  • Counsellors must ensure they provide therapeutic intervention services in accordance with relevant funding guidelines and Domestic and Family Violence practice standards and Centacare CQ’s policies and procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 year tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as domestic and family violence, social work, community services, counselling, psychology or human services;
  • Proof of Membership and ability to maintain membership to one of the following professional associations: ACA Christian Counsellors of Australia QLD Counsellors Association Australian Community Counselling Association Inc – professional membership, ACWA, AASW and or APS.
  • Current Driver’s license (QLD)

At least 1 of the following 2 criteria

  • The equivalent of a graduate certificate in male family violence or facilitating men’s behaviour change for example, as developed by CQU Australia
  • Completed specialist evidence-based group Perpetrator Intervention training of at least 25 hours duration, for example training in the Duluth Model or training delivered by Ken McMasters

In addition to the above, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the behaviour change process in relation to domestic and family violence
  • Demonstrated nuanced and intersectional understanding of the drivers, dynamics and impacts of domestic and family violence and the dynamics of gender, power and control
  • Demonstrated recognition of the significance of patterns of perpetrator behaviour beyond individual incidents of violence and can meaningfully assess these patterns to develop appropriate responses for the victim and appropriate interventions for the perpetrator
  • Demonstrated gendered analysis of violence in their practice acknowledging that gender inequality is a predominant cause and consequence of domestic and family violence
  • Demonstrated recognition of the complex ways in which children are harmed through experiencing violence, and the tactics of control and abuse of power that they experience, including family systems intergenerational trauma cycle.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and Child Protection Act 1999 and Child Protection Reform Amendment Act 2017
  • Demonstrated understanding of the domestic and family violence definitions and provisions in the Family Law Act 1975
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Domestic and family violence services practice principles, standards, and guidance
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Information Sharing Guidelines 2017 and Information Sharing Guidelines 2018.
