The Voluntary Assisted Dying - Pharmacy Services is building a new team and a range of Permanent and Temporary Full Time and Part Time positions are available.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the NSW Statewide Voluntary Assisted Dying Pharmacy Service (VAD-PS) is to provide high-quality and comprehensive pharmaceutical care, integrated within the multidisciplinary VAD team, by partnering with patients and clinicians to ensure the accessible, compassionate, safe and effective use of VAD medicines for eligible patients across NSW.
The VAD Pharmacist works as a member of the VAD-PS team, providing pharmaceutical care to individuals accessing VAD in NSW in accordance with approved VAD protocols and care pathways.
Key Responsibilities: Service Commissioning Phase
In the Service Commissioning Phase (until the VAD-PS becomes operational on 28 November 2023) the VAD Pharmacist may be required to assist the VAD Pharmacy Lead and Senior VAD Pharmacist to design and implement the VAD-PS. This could include:
Assist in development of voluntary assisted dying clinical guidelines, pharmacy protocols and related documents.
Contribute to development of other key implementation deliverables including the education and training package and care pathways
Participate in stakeholder engagement such as fora, presentations, committees and other engagement with a range of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders in relation to voluntary assisted dying
Develop and implement procedures, resources and consumer information relating to voluntary assisted dying to support NSLHD’s readiness.
Service Operations Phase
Once the VAD-PS has become operational, the VAD Pharmacist will provide compassionate, safe, high quality pharmaceutical care as a member of the VAD-PS team. This includes:
Provision of information, education and support to individuals accessing VAD and their families/carers, including home visits as needed.
Provision of information, education and support to physicians engaged in caring for individuals accessing VAD, including practice visits as needed.
Supply of approved VAD substances in accordance with relevant legislation and protocols.
Participation in the collection of performance indicators and other data, and engagement in quality improvement activities for the service
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria
Current registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA with no conditions or restrictions on practice.
Extensive experience of working as a pharmacist in a senior capacity in a hospital and/or community environment, preferably with clinical experience in end of life care.
Demonstrated capacity to set and manage competing priorities and to deliver high quality outcomes within agreed timeframes
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
