The Environment Protection (EP) Branch has just developed a three-year strategy to deliver on its purpose to provide policy leadership on behalf of government to protect people and the environment from pollution. The EP Branch provides leadership through evidence and consultation to thoroughly understand the policy problem, and a coordinated effort with delivery partners and other stakeholders across government, community, industry, and Traditional Owners to tackle current and emerging environmental challenges.
The Victorian Government has released a comprehensive Victorian Air Quality Strategy, providing policy and program priorities to reduce air pollution. The Policy Officer – Air Quality Strategy will work in a multi-disciplinary team to support the team's delivery of the Strategy's commitment to analyse options for wood heater policy reform to reduce the impact of wood smoke on people's health.
Key priorities for this role include stakeholder consultation support, undertaking procurement activity, supporting project management activities, and supporting policy development and analysis.
To be successful in this position, you will have strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills to liaise across a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will also have proven time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision as well as a flexible and responsive attitude to your work. You will also have a demonstrated interest in developing policy analysis skills.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
An appropriate qualification in public policy, environmental management, science, economics, law, or equivalent is desirable.
Demonstrated experience and / or knowledge of project management and delivery, procurement processes and/or public policy development is desirable.
This is a fixed term position available until 31 December 2023. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
