Based in the UNSW Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture, the [BARC] is a unique transdisciplinary enterprise, dedicated to transforming thinking and practice in mental health through creative collaboration and cultural innovation.
BARC researches lived experience through a distinctive combination of trauma-informed, psychosocial research and creative practice, developing the rich communications and engagement practices needed to understand, connect with and support everyday experiences of mental health, trauma and suicidality.
BARC research underpins The Big Anxiety festival - one of the world's largest mental health arts festivals. Our research has produced a range of creative programs and immersive media tools related to trauma support, suicide prevention and other areas of mental health.
The Opportunity
BARC UNSW is looking to engage a Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) to join a transdisciplinary team (spanning psychology/social science, art/design and digital/immersive media), investigating the subjective/embodied experience of mental health and collaborating on the creation of creative media tools and art projects, designed to improve wellbeing. The Fellow will work on the co-design of creative media and engagement programs in close collaboration with communities, privileging lived experience perspectives.
This role is supported by Bridging Hope Charity Foundation and offers the opportunity to engage with counterparts through the Art Therapy Alliance in Beijing.
Postdoctoral Fellow: $80,476- $107,299+ 17% super & leave loading
The role of Postdoctoral Fellow reports to the Director, BARC. The position has no direct reports
- Full-time, fixed-term contract- 3 years
- Location: UNSW- Kensington - Sydney, Australia
Who you are
You will have a doctoral qualification or equivalent experience in arts and mental health or a relevant discipline (media arts, design, psychosocial studies, psychology) with track record of designing & implementing research projects within the areas such as trauma, anxiety, depression, loneliness, grief, or suicide. You will also have the ability to work successfully in an interdisciplinary team from a trauma-informed perspective. You will have good academic writing skills and be sensitive to/informed by lived experiences of mental health and cultural difference.
Due to the opportunity to collaborate with counterparts in Beijing, knowledge of Chinese languages is beneficial, but not essential.
