The team's responsibilities include;- Provision of advice on approaches to conducting economic assessments and evaluations across the department- An ongoing program of research, analysis and modelling to provide advice to Ministers and senior management- Undertaking research and contributing to the development of national project and policy evaluation guidelines and techniques- Coordinating coordinate Transport and Main Road's approach to broad economic policy issues
The Department of Transport and Main Roads' is seeking a Principal Economist to join the Economic Research and Analysis team and contribute to the development of a single integrated transport system accessible to everyone. In this role, you will undertake economic analysis and provide strategic advice to support the improvement of the transport system in Queensland.This role reports to the Manager, Economic Research and Analysis and has no direct reports.TMR is committed to creating a delivery focused, digitally capable workplace with a culture of inclusion and employee wellbeing. We offer flexible work arrangements and a good work-life balance.In addition, much of the team's analysis and modelling is undertaken in Python and there will be opportunities for you to learn and apply Python in the role.Key Responsibilities: - Developing strategic transport policy and providing high-level advice to executive management- Undertaking research and contributing to the development of robust transport project evaluation techniques and guidelines- Leading the development of quantitative models and providing advice and support on economic analysis- Building relationships with stakeholders across government, industry, and academia- Representing TMR on organisational and local, state, and national transport issues and policies- Preparing well-researched reports and policy documents for senior and executive management- Participating in performance conversations to build a culture of performance improvementDesirable Requirements: - Degree(s) in Economics, Business, Commerce, Data Analysis or Arts with Economics major(s)- Relevant post-graduate qualification in economics, transport economics, transport planning, financial analysis, or modelling- Demonstrable experience in providing economic analysis and insights to senior leaders- Proven skills in economic research and analysis, written and evidence-based reporting, data analytics, and statistical best practices- Familiarity with transport cost-benefit analysis and the Australian Transport Assessment and Planning Guidelines
