Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is a Queensland Statutory Authority established to regulate the building industry and ensure maintenance of proper building standards and remedies for defective building work.
QBCC also serves to educate, protect and support the community and the Industry via licensing and registers, education, dispute resolution and adjudication, enforcing compliance and managing the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme.
Primary Purpose of the position
The purpose of the position is assist the Manager Finance with ensuring the accuracy of financial information and facilitating the timely financial and statutory reporting.
Key Outcomes/Accountabilities
The aim of this role is to:
Actively manage and provide guidance to direct reports, including monitoring performance of the staff.
- Provide high level advice to the Manager Finance on the application of contemporary accounting practices and principles, including Australian Accounting Standards.
- Month end accounting responsibilities, including preparation of journals and management of the fixed asset register.
- Prepare the Business Activity Statements and Fringe Benefit Taxation returns for lodgement within required timeframes.
- Assist in preparing Queensland Treasury submissions, including financial performance.
- Assist with the production of accurate statutory and internal financial management reports, including the notes to the annual financial statements.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors, as well as other stakeholders, on issues impacting on the integrity of the QBCC's financial processes.
- Provide advice and recommendations to the Manager Finance on systems and processes impacting QBCC's finances.
- Identify new and alternate approaches to performing business activities, including the analysis of business processes, for recognition of the potential for automation of the processes.
- Contribute to the further development and maintenance of accounting frameworks, internal controls and policies and procedures.
- Other tasks as directed by Manager Finance
Candidate Attributes:
Mandatory qualification
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline e.g. commerce or accountancy.
Highly desirable requirements:
- Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years' or over experience in a finance role.
- Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) or working towards obtaining one of these qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience in provision of a high level of interpersonal and communication skills - written and oral.
- Experience in providing leadership to and management of a team.
- Experience in the statutory reporting, including notes to the financial statements, preferably within a State Government environment.
- Proven ability to participate as a member of a team.
