The Principal Infrastructure Specialist role develops the technology and infrastructure roadmap, optimising the use of the cloud service platforms and meeting required performance benchmarks for cloud services and on-premises platforms and technologies. This role will provide guidance on cost optimisation for platforms and infrastructure within the departments.
Delivering technology and infrastructure projects as well as maintaining current platforms and technologies to meet production Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and refresh ageing and out of support environments.
Accountabilities?
- Provide leadership and guidance to ensure the successful delivery of projects, IT managed services operations, enhancements, and defect resolution on time, on budget, with high quality
- Maintain an understanding of the department's approved platforms, technology and infrastructure and a broad understanding of departmental system solutions.
- Support strategic thinking, innovation, and process re-engineering to support the delivery of high-quality solution outcomes that meets business and citizen expectations.
- Responsible for continual cost optimisation for all cloud and on-premises platform and infrastructure services. Proactively work with vendors to ensure service/infrastructure proposals are cost effective and appropriate in delivering the required outcome.
- Manage allocated vendor contracts for the department's supported system solutions, ensuring vendors deliver to their contractual obligations.
- Monitor and measure system performance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for platforms, technologies and infrastructure environments and ensure compliance by internal and external vendor teams.
- Quality assures deliverables prepared by the team and third parties, identify issues, and provide clear recommendations for resolution.
- Adhere to the government, IDS and SSU's strategies, policies, and methodologies (e.g. PDM).
- Develop, maintain and manage detailed work estimates and schedules for projects, minor enhancements, and defects.
- Mentor team members to develop their technical skills and knowledge and support project delivery teams as required.
- Maintain knowledge of new and evolving technologies and work closely with the Solutions, Enablement & QA team to ensure solutions meet approved application and enterprise architecture.
- Resolve emerging issues, risk and trends impacting on the successful achievement of key business objectives and imperatives and provide high quality business intelligence and sound recommendations based on comprehensive research and investigations.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Proven ability to evaluate stakeholder requirements; and develop and present technology and infrastructure solutions to senior management and executive stakeholders.
- Advanced knowledge of technology and infrastructure architecture best practice and current and emerging industry trends.
- Experience designing highly-available, redundant, public cloud (On-prem in some cases) architectures, utilizing IaaS and PaaS, for large scale, mission critical applications and workloads
- Experience designing strategic technology road maps for cloud & On-prem IT infrastructure environments.
- Experience leading cloud-based operating model leveraging native cloud provider capabilities and additional value added services.
- Experience managing cloud hosting service providers to agreed service levels and KPIs.
- Advanced knowledge of cloud security guidelines.
