The Office of the Ombudsman WA acknowledges the Aboriginal peoples of Western Australia as the traditional custodians of the lands and waterways throughout Western Australia, and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
We are currently seeking to fill the position of Principal Investigating Officer. This opportunity will be a permanent appointment.
About the Western Australian Ombudsman
The office of the Ombudsman has six principal functions. The office:

  • Receives, investigates and resolves complaints about State Government agencies, local governments and universities;
  • Reviews child deaths and family and domestic violence fatalities;
  • Undertakes own motion investigations;
  • Undertakes a range of additional functions, including statutory inspection and monitoring functions;
  • Undertakes the Reportable Conduct Scheme; and
  • Is the Western Australian Charitable Trusts Commission.
The Ombudsman also undertakes the role of the Energy and Water Ombudsman. The Ombudsman is also the President of the International Ombudsman Institute.
Staff of the Ombudsman’s Office
The staff of the Ombudsman’s office are its key resource. The office supports professional development through education and training and flexible work arrangements may be negotiated.

This Position
The Principal Investigating Officer is responsible for:
  • Investigating and resolving complaints from members of the public about the decision making and practices of public authorities;
  • Assisting senior officers with more complex complaints; and
  • Undertaking related projects and community and agency liaison.
