Principal PHP/Drupal Developer

Grade 11/12, Ongoing

  • Fixed term contract – 24 Months at 35 hours per week

About the team

Working in an Agile product team, you will contribute to the Service NSW website through build, maintenance and enhancement phases, to deliver high quality code. How we work:

  • We use XP (Extreme Programming) practices (including TDD, pair programming and CI/CD) to design and build fast stable software and get it into our customers’ hands quickly.
  • We pride ourselves on being responsive to customers’ needs, consistently delivering value to the people of NSW.
  • We work with PHP (Drupal), JavaScript (ES6, React.js), Docker, AWS Cloud and Apigee to deliver end-to-end platforms.
  • We collaborate closely with other teams to architect and implement the right solutions, applying lean problem-solving to deliver value within a complex ecosystem.

What will you be doing?

As the Principal Drupal/PHP Developer, you will use your skills and experience to take digital designs and produce stable, secure, and reliable digital applications that will make a difference in the lives of all NSW residents and Service NSW staff.
Working in an Agile product team, you will lead the end-to-end product development through build, release, maintenance and enhancement phases, to deliver high quality products that are thoroughly tested and optimised for open-source products such as Drupal. More specifically this 24-month contract will see you:
  • Lead and develop features and improvements to the product (website) in a way that is secure, well-tested, and performant
  • Work with Engineers, Product Managers, Content Designers and Designers to maintain a high level of quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment
  • Develop features, improvements, and new functionality as well as collaborating with the team on larger projects.
  • Provide solutions to moderately complex technical problems
  • Promote improvements in product quality, security, and performance
  • Contribute to defining and managing technology changes within the website team to ensure best practice in line with team priorities
  • Influence engineers and other professional/specialist staff through coaching and professional development to deliver high quality, efficient and compliant services, and a positive customer experience

You’ll have:
  • Proven front-end and/or back-end Drupal (D8/D9) or PHP development experience.
  • Strong skill in PHP, Drupal 8/9 site & custom module building, MySQL, JavaScript (ES6), jQuery, CSS, HTML, React and API integrations
  • Extensive experience in test driven development (TDD) and cloud deployment/management.
  • High motivation to create excellent digital customer experiences.
  • Excellent understanding of systems thinking and technical design.
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Driven by continuous improvement and improving the customer experience
