About Us
Enterprise Technology is a Division within Investment and Technology and provides IT services and technology for DoT delivering Corporate and Enterprise wide capabilities. It performs a central role providing core IT Risk and Assurance, Cyber leadership and documenting strategic directions for all DoT's Information technology and data.

About the Role
The Principal Solution Architect is responsible for designing technology solutions based on business, functional and non-functional requirements. The role has a strong emphasis on ensuring proposed solutions are holistic, scalable, cost-effective, fit-for-purpose and complies with the department's Enterprise Architecture framework.
The role will work collaboratively with various technology delivery teams within the Department and provide leadership and expert advice across delivery projects within Enterprise Technology as appropriate including advice on industry trends, best practices, and technical solution design.
The Principal Solution Architect will also provide guidance and contribute to shape business concepts at Ideation stage, prepare high level estimates and implementation roadmaps for solution proposals as well as ensure delivery teams understand the requirements and solution to be delivered throughout the delivery phase.

Key Accountabilities

  • Understanding the Department's business requirements: Provides leadership and expert advice in strategic architecture and recommendations on appropriate solution offerings to support the department's goals and objectives.
  • Defining technical architecture: Leads the delivery of solution proposals including hardware, software, and network components; ensure that the solution is scalable, secure, and meets the organisation's technical requirements.
  • Designing solutions: Leads the design of technology solutions that are cost-effective, reliable, and aligned with the department's Enterprise Architecture principles. Research, analyse, interpret and report on a range of possible solutions in relation to complex business and technical issues. Factors such as performance, scalability, security, and compatibility with existing systems must be considered.
  • Delivers fit for purpose solution proposals: Contributes to solution proposals demonstrating deep understanding of business problem, business requirements. Solution proposal clearly articulates scope, budget required and implementation roadmap.
  • Evaluating technology options: Leads the evaluation of solution options ensuring suitability for the business needs, budget, and compliance to Enterprise Architecture. The principal solution architect must be knowledgeable about latest technologies and industry trends.
  • Facilitate effective solution implementation: Work collaboratively with project level solution architect or technical lead to mitigate project risks and resolve technical issues to ensure successful project delivery that meets strategic intent.
  • Collaborating with broader team members: Develop, maintain and foster effective networks and liaisons with technical teams and stakeholders to assist in delivering appropriate solution architectures.
  • Maintain knowledge and extend department capabilities: Maintain knowledge of relevant Whole of Victorian Government and Federal Government ICT policies and standards where applicable. Build awareness in modern tools and technology, show-casing innovative ideas and socialising industry trends and best practices.

Understands the impact of internal IT landscape to daily operations; Has broad understanding on implementation activities related to the introduction and ongoing maintenance of new digital and technology tools.
  • Influence and Persuasion (Applied) – Consistently adapts the content, style, message or tone of a presentation to suit the audience and plans how to tackle objections; Applies own ideas by linking them to others' values, needs and goals.
  • Stakeholder Management (Applied) – Takes steps to add value for the client or stakeholder; Links people with other areas as appropriate; Monitors client and stakeholder satisfaction; Constructively deals with stakeholder issues

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Mandatory
  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in IT Systems or related area
Desirable
  • Experience and/or certification in an industry-recognised architecture framework (e.g. TOGAF)
  • Experience working with product focused agile teams
ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive experience in ICT cloud architecture, technologies and current/emerging industry trends; proven ability to evaluate stakeholder requirements and ability to present solutions to business and executive stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
  • SaaS Platform: Configuring and developing solutions using SaaS CRM or Service Management Platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics, ServiceNow, etc)
  • Integration: Integration patterns, service development, API management and SOA framework, as well as messaging formats
  • Network, Security, and Identity Management.
