Principal/Chief Mechanical Project Engineer
2XM Recruit are delighted to be working with a large global, forward thinking heavy engineering organisation in their recruitment process for a Principal / Chief Mechanical Engineer, who will have the opportunity to work on / design new build and large component overhaul projects.
As the principal mechanical project engineer your role is to provide technical leadership in the delivery of mechanical engineering solutions within the business’ technical services team, from initial concept to completion and verification of the defined scope of work.
The position will also give the successful applicant the opportunity to provide leadership and mentorship to graduate and less experienced engineers across the organisation. The client is a big believer in supporting and developing their own internal people, at all levels, to provide the opportunity to continuously grow and develop.
We are looking for a forward thinking, ambitious and innovative engineer that can think outside the square to overcome difficult design and engineering objectives. Any previous experience working with bio fuels, hydrogen or battery electric systems would be highly regarded!
The position is available due to on-going company growth and has been created to drive mechanical best practice across the wider engineering / technical services team.
We can consider applicants from BRISBANE, SYDNEY and MELBOURNE.
There will be travel required to multiple locations on a monthly to bi-monthly basis including Sydney, Melbourne and/or Brisbane and Perth (dependent on your location).
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Work with the business and wider team to development of value propositions and business cases for mechanical systems and services.
Lead the development technical solutions for new and upgraded mechanical systems.
Ensure the effective integration of engineering and design activities in a primarily project orientated business.
Ensure that designs are built with the manufacture and safety at the forefront; including both new and modified products.
Demonstrate technical leadership in mechanical systems, including reliability engineering, testing instrumentation, data logging, failure analysis and maintenance optimization programmes.
Management of commissioning activities including development of test plans, work instructions, risk assessments, performance validation.
Provide leadership and mentoring support to more junior staff members, including supporting the wider business with defining the competency requirements for staff in the mechanical systems discipline.
Ensure compliance with all data logging and record keeping requirements.
Undertake any ADHOC projects, initiatives, takes as direction by the Head of Engineering Services.
Skills & Experience Required
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Science (Mechanical Engineering).
8 – 10 years demonstrated experience in previous Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineering roles.
Chartered Professional Engineer (Hold or be eligible for chartered engineer status)
Ansys, Apex and Adams Dynamic Simulator would be highly regarded but not essential. Similar/transferable software experience would be required (contact us for more information).
Demonstrate the ability to work independently and organise and prioritise demands based on importance.
Handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.
Proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook.
