To help us with this challenge, we are looking for a Principal Advisor to join our Mining / Fixed Equipment team - Renewable Power Generation within Global Procurement based in our Perth office.

As we continue our transformational journey of decarbonisation, the key focus of this role is to; drive commercial excellence in the RPG portfolio, the delivery of outstanding stakeholder contributions and productive supplier relationships. You will do this by assisting with the creation and execution of procurement category strategy, whilst developing and utilising key global supplier relationships. You have a passion for end-to-end category management, commercial excellence, process improvement and generating stakeholder satisfaction; as enablers to Global Procurement delivering against its priorities and growth.

Working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Global Procurement team and reporting to management, you will:
  • Collaborate with a variety of business stakeholders and cross-functional working groups to design and deliver against Rio Tinto's Energy Development (RTED) strategic priorities
  • Create and deliver robust /detailed end-to-end procurement category strategies that satisfy RT's dynamic business requirements over the short to long term
  • Establish and manage long term, sustainable relationships with key global suppliers, based on leverage, capability, innovation, sustainability, mutual value creation etc
  • Collaborate with multiple key internal stakeholders (especially RTED) to build strong relationships and establish alignment on category opportunities, risks and priorities
  • Drive growth in the category through effective partnerships and the management of productive strategic supplier relationship management programs
  • Manage the collection of detailed industry and supplier market research e.g. market supply/demand analysis, key market drivers, internal forecasts, future trend analysis, technology developments etc. To ensure that the category strategy is kept updated with the latest opportunities and thinking
  • Support both local and China sourcing initiatives
  • Managing and assessing supplier performance to ensure adherence to contract obligations and driving optimal delivery of TCO added value
  • Developing individual commercial initiatives in line with the category strategies and implementing these to the benefit of Rio Tinto Business Units and RTED
  • Ensuring that all HSEC, Governance, Risk and Ethics protocols / policies are adhered to
About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Degree in either Business, Economics, Finance, Law or Engineering, or substantial industry experience in a similar role
  • A strong experience of demonstrating a robust commercial mindset / acumen
  • Proven track record of successfully managing high spend, risk and complex negotiations with global suppliers
  • Significant category management experience with proven abilities to develop and implement complex commercial strategies
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team skills with the ability to constructively influence
  • Transformation mindset with strong project management, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities
  • A positive disposition that reflects a strong drive and ambition to succeed
  • Experience of being a part of a matrix organization, working with cross functional teams implementing supply chain solutions that have delivered demonstrated value to the organization
  • Ability to work unsupervised and be a self-starter
  • Experience in business development and in major projects in capital intensive industries such as mining and oil & gas
  • Ideally, domain knowledge in the Renewable Power Generation arena
