Our day shift Ferrous Production Manager role is primarily operational and will be responsible for achieving business objectives and strategies of the ferrous operations to optimise production efficiency, improve safety performance through the maintenance of standards, process control, problem solving and deliver a positive customer experience with regard to incoming and outgoing material.
You will be part of Hemmant Management Team and responsible for the implementation of Shredder operational plans, OHS plans, export shipping programs and other objectives as set out by Hemmant Operations Manager. You will be managing approximately 26 direct reports across 2 shifts.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting a strong focus on customer service across the business and within the ferrous department in meetings and other venues
- Acting on KPIs set for delivery across ferrous operations and implementing systems and processes to facilitate achievement of these performance targets
- Allocating appropriate manning and ensuring employees are trained, fit, qualified and competent to effectively run operations
- Ensuring the operation is working in adherence with site safety policies and procedures
- Addressing all corrective actions raised through risk identification, safety observations and incident investigations
- Monitoring and managing operations expenses within budget and appropriate DOA
You are either an experienced leader or someone with a background in manufacturing, maintenance or operations looking for a step into an operational role. You will have the ability to build strong internal and external relationships, responding to frequent changes in priorities and have a solution-oriented mindset.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Exposure to lean principles
- High level problem solving, conflict resolution and people management skills
- Solid understanding of safety management systems and building the safety culture
- Ability to work in a very fluid and dynamic business and be able to think on your feet
