Job Description:
Our client is an ASX listed organisation developing a project in Central Africa. They are seeking a Project Director who will Develop the company’s projects in a timely and effective manner to generate value for the company and shareholders. The incumbent will be part of the senior team managing and developing the company’s project through feasibility studies and construction into operations.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing projects in line with all statutory and company Environmental, Health and Safety requirements
Responsible for coordinating and managing the feasibility studies leading into construction for the company’s major projects
Recruiting and managing employees, whether on a permanent or ‘as need’s contract basis to carry out the various aspects of the studies
Scoping, tendering, selecting and appointing appropriate contractors/consultants to carry out the various discipline studies
Oversee and manage the contractors/consultants to undertake the studies to level required for the project including ensuring applicable codes and regulations are being followed
Developing systems and processes for managing the studies activities
Manage the studies to ensure they are completed within budget and schedule
Liaise with key stakeholders to develop the project
Appoint and manager the EPC/EPCM contractor for the project
Oversee the construction of the project to endure the project is completed safely, on schedule and on budget (significant time on site will be expected)
Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
Assist in the contractor procurement and pre-qualification
Report and escalate to management as needed
Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
Perform risk management to minimize project risks
Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
Delegate project tasks to the owner’s team based on individual strengths, skill sets and experience levels
Working with the Operation GM for the projects to be Operationally Ready at completion of construction
Ensure that projects are closed out properly
Monitor and report against accountable activities in the project schedules
Compile Feasibility Study reports to standard required for ASX and AACE reporting
Contribute to financial and commercial performance through sound and effective input
Develop project budget and manage expenditure within the approved budget
Maintain and develop relationships
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
Minimum 15 years’ experience working in a similar role within the mining, infrastructure or project environments
Suitable degree qualification in engineering
Extensive experience in project managing resource studies and construction projects
Operational Readiness experience
Solid understanding of Mining Acts, Regulations, Standards, Codes and Guidelines for Angola
Fluency in Portuguese advantageous
Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills and ability to engage with key stakeholders
