Job description

The Project Manager – Built and Natural Environment, manages and facilitates assigned built and natural environment development and design projects within a multi-disciplinary team, including but not limited to, survey, town planning, master planning, land tenure resolution, Native Title, ILUA’s, infrastructure development, home ownership, climate science and adaptation, and economic development.

Engagement is an expectation of this role, you should have extensive experience in culturally appropriate engagement strategies as well as project collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, Prescribed Bodies Corporate and Indigenous Councils.

Key responsibilities of this role:

  • Implement project management best practices on assigned projects using specialist project management approaches (including all standards, methodologies, procedures, tools, templates and work instructions) and project reporting framework to ensure projects are managed to ensure best practice quality outcomes.
  • Support the activities of the Program Director RILIPO in achieving the Department's commitments including project managing a Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Pilot Project on behalf of three Indigenous communities to determine their risk resilience to a natural disaster by collaborating across whole of government (WOG) to collate infrastructure data, to apply risk management strategies of the communities to disasters, including flooding, bushfire, landslide, tsunami, cyclone and coastal hazards.
  • Overall responsibility for managing the successful delivery of assigned projects, including managing and coordinating design and built environment initiatives, climate change and adaptation initiatives, renewable energy initiatives, and economic development.
  • Develop a range of formal and comprehensive built and natural environment project plans, (addressing the scope, range of tasks, deliverables, milestones, quality reviews, issues, risks and benefits) involved in undertaking major strategic and complex projects.
  • Research, analyse, interpret, assimilate and develop complex information including geographic information system (GIS) and Power BI data models for the development of papers, briefing documents, submissions, plans, detailed reports, electronic & media data presentation and reporting and other correspondence as required.
  • Represent the Department, including providing authoritative advice and assistance to multiple stakeholders, including three tiers of government in relation to built and natural environment programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide advice to senior management on technical, policy and procedural issues which impact outcomes for clients, partners and other stakeholders
  • Support the work ethos of the Department by valuing culture, listening and leading with actions, being inclusive, supportive and trustworthy.
Additional / mandatory requirements:
  • Possession of a Queensland driver's licence
  • Frequent travel to remote Indigenous communities is a requirement of this role.
  • All applicants must nominate an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to their ability to meet the cultural capability criteria. This person may be a community member, supervisor or work colleague.
  • It is a condition of employment to comply with the department's COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements policy. Where this policy requirement applies, employees must provide evidence of their vaccination status including having the prescribed number of doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine prior to the commencement of their employment.
