Position Title: Psychiatry Registrar

Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. The position is initially for 24 months with extension for a further 24months based on satisfactory progress through the ANZCA training program.

To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 4 + by February 2025

Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug Services (MHJHADS) provide health services directly and through partnerships with community organisations. The services provided range of services from prevention and treatment to recovery, maintenance and harm minimisation. Consumer and carer participation is encouraged in all aspects of service planning and delivery. MHJHADS works in partnership with consumers, carers and a range of government and non-government service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients. The Division delivers services at several locations, including hospital inpatient and outpatient settings, community health centres, detention centres, other community settings including people’s homes. 

If you are appointed to an accredited psychiatry training position, you will work in a series of RANZCP accredited psychiatry training posts under supervision of accredited RANZCP supervisors. All RANZCP Fellowship requirements can be met in the ACT RANZCP Training program, and you will be able to access the ACT RANZCP Formal Education Course.

DUTIES

Under limited direction of the Director of Clinical Services and Clinical Directors, you will:

1.    Provide competent and efficient clinical management of clients of MHJHADS under the supervision of more senior medical staff, including:

a.    assessment and management of people presenting to the emergency department and admissions,

b.    providing in-patient care including working in the multidisciplinary team to plan treatment and care.

c.     Attending outpatient clinics to review patients, document the clinical journey and plan appropriate treatment/management including appropriate follow-up care.

d.    Supporting interdisciplinary consults to the general hospital, and

e.    Undertaking clinical handover including clinical documentation and discharge letters.

2.    Work within and support the multidisciplinary clinical team and work collaboratively with other areas within the service including ED and hospital wards and other agencies

3.    Demonstrate progress RANZCP training including participation in the relevant teaching program and activities and timely completion of assessments. Involvement in research and quality improvement activities

4.    Participate in the supervision, training, and professional development of junior medical staff including unaccredited registrars, resident medical officers, interns and medical students

5.    Maintain currency in all essential CHS training including currency in Basic Life Support

6.    Participate in the after-hours, ECT, and on-call registrar rosters

7.    Comply with the policies and requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and policies of the ACT Health Directorate. This includes the promotion and application of workplace relations, workplace equity and diversity and workplace safety; and

8.    Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

·         Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

·         Be eligible to join RANZCP training or be eligible by the time of commencement of the post.

·         Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students

  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide . Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

·         The successful applicant will be required to undertake ECT, weekend and after-hours work.

  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

·         Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

·         Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

·         Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

·         Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

·         Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

Referee Requirements:

You only need to submit one set of referee reports which will be used for both your employment with CHS and your application for psychiatry training with RANZCP.

You must submit three (3) referee reports on the RANZCP referee report forms. RANZCP referee report forms can be provided on request for referees to complete and send directly to the office of Director of Psychiatry Training. Please email ***************@act.gov.au for referee report forms.

You must provide at least one referee report from your current direct supervisor.

If you are seeking to transfer your RANZCP training to ACT, you must provide a referee report from your current or most recent Director of Training.

If you have submitted RANZCP referee reports via the CHS e-recruit system, it is not necessary to separately send these to the ACT RANZCP Branch Training Committee.
