About Us

Alpine MDF Industries is a large wood processing facility located at Wangaratta in North East Victoria offering permanent employment for over 140 local people.

Alpine’s core business is manufacturing Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) for many uses in the construction, and related, industries and is distributed and sold nationally in Australia.  Complimenting the core business, Alpine MDF has established a re-manufacturing business on the same site where core products are reprocessed into specific building products such as pre-painted skirting, architraves, door and window components and decorative wall lining panels.

The Company has invested heavily in upgrading the re-manufacturing department in the last 2 years with the construction of over 4,000m2 of new factory and warehouse space.  This is to house new state-of-the-art plant and equipment that will enable our ability to add value to our raw product.

About the role

Reporting to the Technical Manager, this position performs a variety of Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests and inspections at regular frequencies, analyses results, develops reports and provides feedback to production staff to help drive production rates and maintain quality.

The role requires a hands-on and energetic person with a high level of organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work quickly and accurately. The role will operate under the site EBA on a 12-hour rotating 24/7 roster.

This is a full-time position working on a 7-day, 12hr rotating shift roster; 

  • 4-week Rotating Shift Roster Cycle
  • 2 weekends off in every 4 
  • Shift Allowance

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Conduct QC line and fibre tests at a frequency that minimizes down grade and optimizes productivity;
  • Analyse test results and provide feedback regarding machine settings;
  • Conscientiously performs tasks in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety and other established safety policies and procedures at Alpine MDF;
  • Perform regular inspections of panel surface and fibre quality, and perform root cause analysis if deviations in quality are found;
  • Conduct QA tests on finished products and report outcomes within specified timeframes;
  • Report environmental nonconformance’s to appropriate hierarchy;
  • Complete grading requirements and report outcomes within specified timeframes and ensure nonconforming product is quarantined;
  • Maintain records to provide objective evidence that product conforms to the appropriate requirement.

To be successful in the role:

The successful applicant will have an eye for detail, some technical ability and experience in internal testing or manufacturing. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Ability to adapt to change and work to given instructions;
  • Comfortability with hands-on work in a physically demanding environment;
  • Good computer skills - Microsoft Office Suite, e-mails;
  • Good numerical, verbal, and written communication skills;
  • Technical manufacturing experience and industry knowledge is preferred;
  • Experience in conducting product testing in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is preferred;
  • A basic knowledge of science or a technical trade background is desirable.
