Job Description

We are looking for a journalist with at least two years’ experience in radio news, to join the Nine Radio Sydney newsroom.

You will research, write, edit and present live news and sport bulletins on Sydney's premier news and talk radio station as well as our national network of stations.

You may also compile digital products including the Nine News Podcast and on-demand news content.

As a journalist you will generate stories, research, edit and present information in an accurate, balanced and interesting way.

You will also work with our TV journalists and producers to create radio content.
  • Editing and presenting accurate, informative and interesting news and sport bulletins.
  • Researching and writing radio news stories.
  • Generating ideas for stories, and following leads from contacts, politicians, the public, media conferences and other sources.
  • Conducting interviews with a variety of newsmakers.
  • Exercising editorial judgment on the best angle from which to approach a story.
  • Presenting live, timed-out bulletins as well as recorded bulletins.
  • Compiling and presenting 9News Podcast and Digital news products.
  • Meeting hourly and half hourly deadlines.
  • Making editorial decisions on news and sport coverage.
  • Reporting breaking news as it unfolds.
  • Understanding and complying with media law and industry codes of conduct and regulations.
  • Undergoing necessary training and accreditation.
  • Taking direction from the Sydney News Director as well as shift editors.
  • Ensuring workplace health and safety compliance, including Covid-safe policies and practices.
Qualifications

Essential
  • Minimum 24 months experience editing and presenting radio news bulletins.
  • Experience in journalism and expertise in news gathering, writing and presenting for radio.
  • Able to meet hourly and half-hourly deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to deal effectively with simultaneous tasks.
  • Broad knowledge of local, national and international issues, newsmakers and organisations.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international sport.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills.
  • On-line research, word processing, audio editing and social media skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently, and to take feedback and direction.
  • Adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Class C - car).
Desirable
  • Degree qualified in journalism.
