The role

The Senior Instrumentation Specialist is a member of the Fixed Plant Control team in Australia, and is responsible for ensuring the highest possible integrity of process plant instruments across multiple sites throughout the Australian region. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the availability, health and integrity of the Fixed Plant Control System infrastructure across multiple sites in the Australian region, to drive exceptional performance across Newmont's portfolio. Ensure that Newmont's fixed plant control systems and instrumentation capabilities are a source of sustainable and considerable competitive advantage for Newmont.

In this role, you will

  • Develop and review strategies and procedures to standardize calibration and maintenance practices for instrumentation across multiple Newmont sites regionally.
  • Review instrumentation selections, verify sizing and suitability according to Design Criteria and Performance Specifications.
  • Support continuous improvement programs and instrumentation projects, collaborate with stakeholders and vendors to implement trials of emerging technology.
  • Ensure instrument documentation (P&ID's, datasheets, instrument list, loop and termination drawings) are revised and being maintained according to auditable industry standards.
  • Participate in on the job supervision, training and mentoring of site supervisors and technicians, ensure calibrations are performed accurately, within specified tolerance to facilitate optimal process performance, production efficiency and safety of personnel.
The person
  • Experience in an instrumentation operational or design role in any related industry.
  • Significant and demonstrable experience in calibration, installation, testing and troubleshooting of industrial instrumentation systems and analytical equipment within an operational processing plant.
  • Knowledgeable in the application of measurement physics applicable to process industries.
  • Experience developing specifications, standards and work procedures.
  • Experience in the execution of minor instrumentation and/or process control projects in Gold Mining or other comparable industry.
  • User level experience with maintenance planning and scheduling systems and inventory control systems such as SAP (preferred) or equivalent systems.
  • Experienced in mentoring and coaching others.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OsiSoft PI application suite desirable Knowledge of Newmont sites and processes, management and business practices would be an advantage.

  • High level computer competency and experience using applications such as Microsoft Windows, Office and Project.
Working Conditions
  • The position is required to travel regularly between sites located in Western Australia and Northern Territory.
  • The position is predominantly site based though work conditions vary with;
  • drive-in, drive-out 8/6 roster or fly-in, fly-out 8/6 roster, and
  • some time working remotely from home.
  • Locations of work may include:
  • Boddington Gold mine, 140km south-east of Perth
  • Tanami Granites and DBS operations, 550km north-west of Alice Springs in the NT
  • Australian Regional Office, Perth and/or working from home
  • The role may occasionally be required to travel to other sites internationally
