About the team

The AusIndustry Business Outreach section is a front-line, face-to-face national service offering. A network of regional managers located across regional centres and capital cities, informing local businesses about programs, grants and services available. Engaging face-to-face with the people who create, build and run Australian businesses.

The network is in a unique position to gather local insights from the business community and economic landscape. These current and emerging issues then become part of policy and program design. Fostering strong collaborative relationships with local, state and federal government agencies, the network offers a personalised business liaison function that takes into account the regional conditions.

Our ideal candidate

As a Regional Manager you will undertake complex work under broad direction. You will play a major role in the face-to-face, front-line delivery of the department’s national service offering. Providing a tailored approach to the promotion, reach and success of these services in a region. Traveling extensively throughout your region of responsibility as a key representative of the department and the Australian government.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • an understanding of business management and of key industry sectors, including their drivers and economic influences
  • strong relationship management skills, including the ability to develop and foster networks and to manage and influence the expectations of key stakeholders
  • a capacity to show a high level of initiative and to remain strongly motivated while working independently
  • analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to plan and develop solutions in situations that require considerable interpretation and analysis
  • strong organisational skills, including the ability to monitor progress and deliver high quality outcomes on time in the context of multiple competing demands
  • oral and written communication skills, including the ability to successfully navigate difficult conversations, and represent and speak on behalf of the organisation at public events
  • knowledge of the local region, its key stakeholders and priority business sectors
  • experience in using knowledge management systems and communications technologies
  • knowledge of government programs and their delivery.
What you will do

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Promote the government’s business assistance programs and services.
  • Travel across the region to ensure wide and representative engagement with stakeholders.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of business programs
  • Gain an awareness of emerging programs that may have relevance for businesses in the region.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry and business profiles within the state.
  • Develop lasting stakeholder networks within the region. 
  • Provide a regional contact point for applicants to the Department’s programs. 
  • Identify opportunities to build connections and opportunities within the region, through participation in local initiatives, committees, groups and taskforces
  • Manage marketing budgets, plans, events and sponsorship with the gal of raising the profile of the department and its programs.
  • Undertake public presentations, formally representing the department's interests. 
  • Provide support to the Minister and Executives when in the State/Territory.
  • Capture and analyse business and economic intelligence that support the department's interests.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to prepare briefs, ministerial correspondence and requests.
  • Keep senior staff informed, escalating issues and proposing solutions on the basis of good judgement and an understanding of priorities. 
  • Coach and mentor staff, providing effective feedback on work. 
Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

To perform this role you will require a current driver’s licence.

Security Clearance

These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

This job is being used to fill an immediate Executive Level 1 vacancy. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing or non-ongoing Executive Level 1 vacancies should they become available within 18 months from the date of advertising.
