The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) provides care to more than 400,000 people living in the northern metropolitan area of Adelaide as well as providing a number of state-wide services, and services to those in regional areas. NALHN offers a range of primary health care services across the northern metropolitan area of Adelaide, with a focus on providing preventive and health promoting programs in the community, and transition and hospital substitution and avoidance programs targeted at chronic disease and frail aged. Consistent with our values, we are looking for a midwife with a passion for improving the health and wellbeing of women and families. The successful applicant will assist in leading and growing our Home Visiting Midwife service.
The Home Visiting Midwives provide a wide range of postnatal midwifery services within the community to support families within the LMH catchment - North and North-eastern suburbs of Adelaide.
These postnatal services include:
- Routine postnatal care of mothers and babies within the first week of life.
- LSCS management and wound care
- Breastfeeding / Formula feeding support
- Neonatal weight management
- Routine screening of mothers and babies
- Home Phototherapy and ongoing jaundice management
- Community engagement for vulnerable families.
Employees classified at this level provide nursing and/or midwifery services in health service settings. Employees working within this level develop from novice practitioners to a proficient level of professional practice. They consolidate knowledge and skills and develop in capability through continuous professional development and experience. An employee at this level accepts accountability for his or her own standards of nursing/midwifery care and for activities delegated to others.
The Registered Midwife position works as part of the team in the home visiting community service which provide short term postnatal and neonatal care in the community for families following discharge from the Lyell McEwin Hospital. Employees classified at this level use their clinical knowledge and experience to provide the pivotal co-ordination of patient/client care delivery in a patient/client care area within a Health Unit/Community Service.
As a Clinical Nurse in this position you will provide nursing and/or midwifery services in a variety of health service settings which has been consolidated by experience and/or further study with staff at this level developing from competent to
proficient practitioners. You will accept accountability for their own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff. The Clinical Midwife role at this level continues to be predominantly clinical in nature; however employees are assigned appropriate portfolios. The allocation of portfolio responsibilities should be negotiated with
each employee and be consistent with the career development plan for the employee as determined by their performance review/development plan.
To be eligible for this position as a Registered Nurse you are required to be registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
To be eligible for this position as a Clinical Nurse you will be required to be registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate; OR registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse and Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement under the Emergency Management (COVID-19) (Healthcare Setting Workers Vaccination) Directions 2022 No 7 to work in SA Health/health care setting.
