About the Role
Collaborating with the multidisciplinary health care team at the Acacia Prison you will provide comprehensive nursing care and best evidence-based practice. You will support the medical management and health care of prisoners, through robust clinical assessment processes and the creation, implementation and management of prisoner care plans. You have experience working with minimal supervision in a multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating initiative and flexibility in an environment subject to pressure and change.
This is a permanent full-time position working across a 24/7 or Monday to Sunday roster. There is a mixture of shifts ranging from 12, 8 or 6 hours, including night shifts.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Relevant post-graduate qualifications (desirable)
- Demonstrated clinical experience in a primary health or acute setting.
- Previous roles in Justice and Correctional Settings are highly desirable
- Experience in conducting health assessments and case management of patient’s health care
- Cultural awareness including understanding the impact and management of different ethnic backgrounds, customs and contemporary issues
- Ability to interact with various multidisciplinary team members and stakeholders and adapt communication style appropriately
- Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral forms
This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes national police check and Department of Justice Clearance as an essential selection component for this role.

Opening in 2001, Acacia Prison is one of the largest prisons in Australia, accommodating 1,525 male medium-security prisoners. Acacia has a focus on providing prisoners with educational, training and work opportunities that improve their chances of sustainable employment on release into the community.
