POSITION PROFILE:

We are seeking an enthusiastic Registrar to join our team in Bunbury from August 2023, for 6 months. There is a strong team of resident consultant paediatricians providing close supervision and support in our hospital, while also giving opportunities for independent practice.

This position in Bunbury will be mainly developmental with participation in some limited on-call at Bunbury Hospital (one evening per week and one weekend shift per month). The successful applicant will be situated at Hudson Road Community Health and will be involved in the Developmental Outreach clinics and can attend by VC the program of excellence in Community Child Health through the Child Development Service in Perth.

The paediatric team in Bunbury includes four consultants paediatricians, four registrars and 5 resident medical officers. Developmental clinics occur at Hudson Road, Manjimup, Collie and Busselton and SWAMS and will be fully supervised by Consultant Paediatricians.

REGION PROFILE:

Bunbury Health Campus is a 171-bed hospital that functions as the Regional Resource Centre for the South West region with all major specialties present on site including ICU and CCU/cath lab. Paediatrics has (1) 6 neonatal level 2 cots (2) 12 beds.

The successful candidate will be responsible for attending developmental outpatient clinics, under the supervision of senior medical staff and if on call will be responsible for attending to patients on the ward, special care nursery, birth suites and consulting in the Emergency Department. The clinical care of patients (under the supervision of senior medical staff) includes attending to patients in order of medical urgency; managing medical conditions according to acceptable clinical standards; collaborating with other Medical, Nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management. It also includes communication with family, outside medical practitioners, and/or community services concerning patient management.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL TO THE ROLE:

The position would be suitable for Dual Trainees in General Paediatrics and Community Child Health. Appointment will be based on skills and experience, with acute care, neonatal and developmental experience an advantage. The successful applicant could choose to do 12 months in which case the second six months the position may revert back to the general paediatric rotation based at Bunbury Hospital but still involving some outreach clinics periodically. This can be further discussed at the interview.
