Job description

  • Central Adelaide Local Health Network – The Royal Adelaide Hospital 
  • Salary: MD02 - $364,134 - $711,442 P.A. -Pro rata - (Subject to Private Practice Agreement)
  • Temporary 6 month term - 0.5FTE

We are looking for an experienced Transplant Surgeon to join our Central Adelaide Local Health Network Team.

 About the role:

The Royal Adelaide Hospital Renal Unit performs the kidney, pancreas and islet transplants for South Australia and the Northern Territory. Kidney transplants number 90-100 each year, and include the most transplants for indigenous patients in Australia. This also includes 20-30 live donor transplants each year. The transplant team also contribute to access surgery for a population of approximately 900 dialysis patients. The unit is the largest renal unit in South Australia, and one of the largest in Australia. It undertakes the full range of nephrological services, including extensive outreach services, and has a very strong culture of research, teaching/training, and contributions to the University of Adelaide and to professional societies.

The role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Outreach to Northern Territory for transplant assessments
  • Participation in organ donation and retrieval service
  • Participation in simultaneous kidney and Pancreas Transplantation

Candidate specific criteria

  • Previous experience with kidney transplantation
  • Experience with whole Pancreas Transplantation highly desirable
  • Ability to perform laparoscopic nephrectomy
  • Ability to be part of and also to lead multidisciplinary teams
  • Interest in education and research
  • Appropriate skill level with English
  • Appropriate clearances as per CALHN criteria with safety to work with aged, vulnerable and children
  • Experience with paediatric kidney transplantation
  • Appropriate IT skills

The Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) is South Australia's flagship hospital, providing a comprehensive range of the most complex clinical care to an estimated 85,000 inpatients and 400,000 outpatients each year. The RAH is also South Australia's largest accredited teaching hospital. Structurally, the hospital spans the equivalent of three city blocks and is located on a pristine site containing almost four hectares of landscaped parks and internal green space, including over 70 courtyards, terraces and sky gardens. The RAH is one of Australia’s most technologically advanced healthcare facilities, integrating the latest innovations across health, education and research to deliver high-quality care.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is 20 minutes west of the CBD, is a 307 bed acute care teaching hospital. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is currently the centrepiece of a $314 million redevelopment project, which includes a purpose-built clinical services building, which is planned to be completed by mid-2024. The new upgrade will include a new ED, in addition new operating theatres, day surgery suite, outpatient clinics, medical imaging services and intensive care unit.
