  • Exciting Research Associate opportunity supporting significant research in Patient Reported Outcomes
  • Base Salary $79,784 - $107,516+ 17% superannuation
About the opportunity

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council and is a research centre of the University of Sydney. .

The collection and use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) enhances two-way communication between patients and clinicians, resulting in improved outcomes and quality of life for patients. This research aims to understand what makes PROMs acceptable to clinicians and consumers, when they should be collected, and how PRO data can best be displayed for quality assurance and care. This will facilitate use of PROMs in healthcare, driving change at an individual, service and system level. The outcomes from this research will be significant, not only for NSW, but nationally and internationally.

This research-focused position calls for a research associate with experience conducting qualitative research to work closely with our research theme leads and support several research focus areas.

Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Coordinate research teams, schedule team meetings, and take minutes
  • assist with writing Ethics Committee applications and research protocols
  • undertake qualitative (and possibly quantitative) data collection and analysis, collecting research data via interview, enter/store in appropriate software, and prepare analysis/reports as required
  • maintain academic and research records for the project(s), including project registers, EndNote libraries and publication registers
  • coordinate participant recruitment, schedule study interviews,
  • provide guidance and/or advice on regulations, policies and procedures in relation to research project undertaken (e.g., HREC procedures, NHMRC Statement for Ethics conduct of research)
  • monitor and report progress and key findings to theme leads and working group members
  • liaise with clinical specialists and affiliated researchers/collaborators regarding study progress and outcomes
  • source information, perform literature searches and prepare drafts for research publications
About you
  • a degree in a health-related field (e.g., Bachelor in Public Health)
  • demonstrated experience as a qualitative researcher conducting patient interviews in health-related areas; experience with survey design and analysis would be desirable
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods
  • strong stakeholder management skills
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters
  • proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • experience writing Ethics Committee applications, research protocols, and conducting literature reviews.
