POSITION OVERVIEW

Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. The Service Designer will work within the Clinical Trials Support Unit (CTSU) primarily around connecting with stakeholders and employing a variety of research methods to establish current and future service models. The successful applicant will apply human centred design (HCD) techniques to the research, prototyping and validation of services with a focus on the end-to-end experience of all stakeholders in the delivery of Clinical Trials.

This position will also provide key support to the research projects undertaken by the Clinical Trials Unit at Canberra Hospital in collaboration with partner and external institutions. This includes administrative support to the Clinical Trials Support Unit and working directly with the Research Ethics and Governance Office (REGO).

The successful applicant will also act as a liaison for all aspects of planning, conduct, implementation, and management of collaborative research with students and other academic partners. The position will act as a contact responsible for ensuring milestones are achieved and the conduct of the research is compliant with Good Clinical Practice and good Academic and Research Practice. You will also provide support and coordination to Clinical Trials Unit staff and administration in obtaining grants and collaborating with these projects.


DUTIES

Under limited direction of the Clinical Trials Manager, you will perform Service Design duties for the Clinical Trials Support Unit. You will:

  • Promote a user-centric approach, end-to-end model for to service delivery based on consumer experience.
  • Build and manage collaborative working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Liaise with university partners and students in research projects with the CTSU, contributing to the planning and facilitation of projects and events.
  • Provide co-design and collaborative workshop design, planning and facilitation with stakeholder groups. Cultivate diverse and open engagement to identify opportunities and shared insights.
  • Contribute to research to support change management and organisational development processes required to improve service delivery.
  • Support ongoing CTSU functions as needed by providing:
    • business analytics
    • project management support
    • data management
    • meeting co-ordination and agendas
  • Develop project strategy, methods, and outcomes, drawing from best practice methods in the fields of design, to contribute to the strategic direction of the CTSU and promote the broad adoption of design thinking methodologies
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

It is desirable that the successful applicant:

  • A degree in a relevant area (Design, Behavioural Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, and/or Anthropology) with subsequent work experience OR an equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
  • Relevant technical skills in Design and/or Research.
  • Relevant technical skills in Systems analysis, design, and integration.
  • Experience in using visual tools to communicate insights and opportunities, such as Journey Maps, Service Blueprints, User Flows, System Models & Diagrams, Service Models, and Data Visualisation Frameworks
  • The successful applicant will need to be available for occasional after-hours work.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Statement on Ethics Conduct in Human Research aligns with this role.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Mandatory

  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.


Note: This is a temporary part-time position available at (29.4) hours per week for six months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. The above full-time salary will be pro-rata. Selection may be based on application only.

Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

  • Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening, and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.

WHAT YOU REQUIRE

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience:

  • Experience in preparing and facilitating research and participatory design activities with stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to communicate insights, support recommendations and guide project outcomes.
  • Experience in modelling the current state of service delivery including documenting behind the scenes processes and visualising system dynamics. Experience with data visualisation and interactive prototyping are highly regarded.
  • An understanding of HCD processes and Design Thinking methodologies including familiarity with a variety of tools and methods used to provide analysis, design solutions, assess and validate the end-to-end user journey.
  • Experience in managing projects at the intersection between academic institutions and government including managing and supporting tertiary students in research project with demonstrated ability to co-ordinate project teams in complex systems.
  • Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health, and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
