ABOUT US

Lighthouse provides therapeutic care programs to children and young people impacted by long-term neglect, abuse and homelessness. Our focus is to create caring communities where young people can feel safe, form meaningful relationships and begin to heal.

All Lighthouse programs, are underpinned by an evidence-based therapeutic model of care, called the Lighthouse Model of Care (LMC). The LMC integrates trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, and psychoanalytic principles of emotional development to create a holistic therapeutic treatment environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role provides therapeutic care to enrich the safety, attachment and physical and emotional development for trauma-impacted children and young people living in residential setting. We have homes that support young people to transition to independent living, homes that care for young parents and their babies, as well as homes to care for children which work towards family reunification or their next, and hopefully, final long term place to call home.

The role is to provide high quality day-to-day therapeutic care, act as a positive role model and supervise the children and young people who live there. Although the role comes with its challenges, it is highly rewarding, where you play an integral part in a community that brings positive change to a young person’s life.

These homes work on a 24/7 roster, where there are a variety of shifts available, during the day, on weekends and overnight, every day of the year.

ABOUT YOU

  • You are open to being challenged and are able to consider different views
  • You have an understanding of attachment and trauma informed practice
  • You are willing to embrace the Lighthouse Model of Care, and work as a team
  • You have the ability to stay calm in emotionally demanding situations
  • You are committed to personal and professional development

Essential requirements

  • A minimum Cert IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention or other higher level qualification in Social Work/Youth Work equivalent is essential. However, Lighthouse will employ applicants who commit to enrolling in a relevant qualification.
  • Applicants must also complete the mandatory up-skilling units as required by Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check (Employee)
  • Complete a National Criminal Records check, and participate in a psycho-social screen by Lighthouse,
  • Provide consent for a Disqualified Carers Check
  • Hold a valid Victorian driver's licence

Desirable for the role

  • Experience with conflict resolution and mediation
  • Hold critical response skills to youth-based crisis situations, including practical and psychiatric emergencies
  • Have an ability to identify and assess suicide/self-harm risks and understand the strategies to manage these risks
