The WA Police Union (WAPU) is seeking a full time Risk and Compliance Officer for a 6 Month Contract (with possible extension), responsible for coordinating the organisation's compliance with all relevant legal, statutory and ethical requirements, as well as industry best practices. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position will develop, maintain and implement frameworks, policies and procedures to support WAPU’s operational Risk and Compliance management.

Covering the portfolios of; Legal, Industrial Relations, WHS, Welfare, Media, Internal Advocacy, Research, Administration and Member Services. WAPU plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and ensuring the well-being of its constituents. WAPU is registered with the WA Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) and affiliated with the Police Federation of Australia (PFA).
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of WAPU's risk management function, ensuring a comprehensive framework/system
- Develop and implement Risk and Compliance related plans, procedures and policies
- Monitor adherence to risk management framework, reporting breaches to relevant stakeholders
- Conduct periodic safety risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies and promote environmentally friendly practices
- Foster a positive risk management culture across all WAPU areas, educating and mentoring employees on operational Risk and Compliance matters
- Assist in business continuity planning, data breach responses and propose solutions for emerging risks
- Oversee Branch Officials' governance and due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with requirements and obligations
About You
Essential:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing Risk and Compliance
- Significant and demonstrated experience in a broad range of risk management activities, including, risk reporting, business continuity, compliance and risk management system administration
- Experience in the development and implementation of Risk and Compliance frameworks
- Demonstrated collaborative and respectful approach to risk, quality and Compliance, as well as the ability to train and mentor others
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills
Desirable:
- Possession of/or progress towards professional or tertiary qualification in a relevant field
- Experience working with ISO 31000:2018
- Project management skills
- Understanding of Policing policies, rules and regulations
