About Us

Bellingen Shire is a picturesque and diverse area located on the Mid North Coast of NSW halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and just south of Coffs Harbour.  It has a total area of 1,605 square kilometres with a coastline of approximately 10km.  The region is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, including lush rainforests, pristine rivers, and the World Heritage-listed Dorrigo National Park.  The area is known for its diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and charming towns, cafes and artisan shops.

We are a progressive local government authority employing approximately 150 dedicated employees.

The Opportunity

In this position, you will play a vital role in protecting and enhancing the health of our local river systems and the diverse species that call them home.  You will be responsible for a range of tasks, including delivering Council’s environmental, River and Biodiversity projects, and managing Council’s environmental, river restoration and Biodiversity grants from external government departments.

The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in either environmental science, environmental management, ecology, or environmental engineering or related discipline and demonstrated experience in work related to the environment, river restoration, biodiversity and/or coastal management with proven experience in developing and implementing relevant programs.  An understanding of biodiversity conservation, catchment management issues and River and/or coastal management issues is also required.

To succeed in the role, you will have the ability to manage projects, grants, contracts and contractors, and have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience in report writing, grant applications, public presentations, community engagement and conducting education forums.

Please note this is a 1-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension

Annual salary of $66,085 to $75,304 (plus super).  This will be pro rata to the applicable hours of the position.

Please note:  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.  For a continuing position, you must be an Australian New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
