About the role
Mater Pathology is currently seeking the skills and expertise of a multiskilled Scientist to work in a permanent part time role (36.0 hours per fortnight) in our stat laboratories. The role is predominately located at our major stat laboratory at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside, however the successful applicant must also be able to work at Maters additional stat laboratory at Mater Private Hospital Springfield.
The role may be required to work independently as a sole scientist on ‘after hours’ and weekend shifts and will participate in a 24 hour roster.
The purpose of the role is to deliver a high quality and cost effective diagnostic service on behalf of Mater Pathology within the Pathology Stat Laboratories, supplying operational direction utilising contemporary technology and best practice standards, for clinicians and their patients.
Mater Pathology is already preparing for a new laboratory information system which will modernise the current services and provides another exciting opportunity for the successful candidate.
Salary range: $33.32 – 48.85 (Health Practitioner Level 3) per hour plus superannuation plus salary packaging
What you’ll be doing
You will report to the Senior Scientist on site but will be part of a 100 year history of Brisbane’s first pathology services. This position requires a high level scientific knowledge, skills and an appropriate level of experience to provide operational support for routine and complex testing within the Stat Laboratory and participate in the daily workflow of the rostered work area team. Some of your key duties will include:
Providing reliable complete reports
Demonstrating responsible actions relating to the significance of results
Undertaking appropriate action in processing results including result authorisation as appropriate and notification of critical results according to Mater Pathology protocols.
Working in conjunction with the Senior Scientist, Stat Lab to ensure compliance to the Clinical Governance Framework and other accredited bodies
Providing high level problem solving skills and solutions.
Utilising scientific and professional judgement in all aspects of decision making
Applying a sound level of scientific knowledge and participation in clinical trials and research as required
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills and experience:
Essential:
A Bachelor of Applied Science - Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent (AIMS accredited)
Desirable:
Proven ability to work as an effective member of a team as well as work independently
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, clinicians and colleagues
Ability to multitask and prioritise work effectively
Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment
Prior experience in a similar role across disciplines including Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Point of Care Testing and Microbiology is highly desirable.
Prior haematology morphology and transfusion experience is highly desirable
Applicable Memberships and/or Fellowships of Professional bodies relevant to General Science would be considered highly desirable
