Chinchilla (pop – 6,600) is one of the towns located on the Warrego Highway, about 2 hours west of Toowoomba on the Warrego Highway leading out to Charleville. Agriculture is the mainstay of the community, with beef and pork production, wool growing, and horticulture traditionally underwriting the local economy. The district also produces 25% of Australia's melons, and Chinchilla hosts the annual Melon Festival, attracting thousands of visitors.
Chinchilla State High School is an integral part of the community and its traditions and history is firmly embedded in the culture of the area. Generations of the same family have attended the school and they value education and community involvement in the school. The school has a proud heritage of academic achievement, of social connection and of student development.
