We have a permanent fulltime opportunity within our Rollingstock Engineering team based in the Brisbane CBD for a Senior Brake Engineer

 

This role will support the brake system engineering team by offering technical insights, problem solving on rollingstock brake systems and assist in developing, monitoring, and implementing policies and standards for brake systems for rollingstock.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to the teams efforts to ensure compliance and the safe operation of rollingstock operated by Queensland Rail.

In this role you can expect the following responsibilities:

 

  • Provide assistance and advice on brake system engineering matters, supporting the Principal Engineer and team with technical insights including the revision to existing procedures and creating new documents such as test procedures and test reports.
  • Aid in the development, monitoring, and review of Safety & Environment Management System (SEMS) policies for brake systems, contributing to the team's efforts to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of technical standards for brake systems in the procurement of rollingstock.
  • Monitor and keep up to date on research and new developments in rollingstock brake systems and contribute ideas and support for project proposals and cost-effective development. This involves integrating the latest SEMS standards into the research and development process for brake systems.
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of consultants, trade staff and reliability officers, providing first and second-line support for resolving complex faults and brake-related issues on rollingstock.

 

The position is required to provide specialized Traction and Control Systems Engineering resource to ensure Rollingstock Engineering can meet demands regarding:

 

  • Knowledge of rollingstock brake system principles, train performance and operation, rollingstock maintenance and construction and interface issues related to the infrastructure.
  • Knowledge in undertaking train braking performance modelling and/or simulation and analysis/interpretation of results.
  • Skill in providing expert advice and preparing engineering reports in the area of safety critical rollingstock.
  • Substantial level of skills in undertaking detail technical investigations, in-service rolling stock testing, problem solving, trials of modifications and preparation of technical reports.
  • Skill in the project management of innovative and value-add solutions for rolling stock brake system equipment and component reliability problems.

 

Must hold the following mandatory requirements at the time of application:

 

  • Bachelor Engineering – Mechanical

 

Annual base salary range of $132,956 - $142,279 + Superannuation and access to QR’s employee benefits such as free city train rail pass to/from work.
