About the team

The Infrastructure and Place division is in the process of delivering a once-in-a generation multi-billion dollar program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.

The Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering services for the multi-modal delivery, operations and management of our Transport network, and is the centre of technical expertise driving innovation and best practice.

The opportunity

Due to the unprecedented scale of investment in the Transport for NSW Future Transport strategy we have multiple opportunities within our Technical Services area, some include:

  • Senior Bridge Design Engineers

The roles will cover different geographical jurisdictions such as:

  • Greater Sydney & Regional NSW

These roles will provide specialist engineering design advice and services for bridges and structures in order to achieve durable bridges and structures which perform to standard and expectation and minimise technical risk to Transport for NSW. This will happen in a matrix style structure delivering outcomes to our internal clients and will support our external partners. The technical risk services at varied stages of the project lifecycle.

The bridge engineering roles will service many of the mega projects and smaller projects happening in NSW. Some of these include:

  • M12 Highway
  • M6 Motorway
  • Pacific Highway Upgrade
  • Warringah Freeway Upgrade
  • Western Harbour Tunnel
  • Beaches Link
  • Sydney Gateway
  • Great Western Highway Upgrade

These roles will have a significant impact on the how these projects are shaped and delivered. They will also ensure quality for the lifespan of the assets. There will be the option of being predominantly office or site based depending on your preference. Transport is undergoing a rapid digital transformation and you will have the opportunity to harness state of the art technologies to assist in the role.

About you

We are looking for a Senior Bridge Engineer who can take TfNSW into the new era of engineering.

The below skills outline some of the requirements within the available roles:

  • Significant experience in the detailed design review of bridges and structures for major infrastructure projects
  • Experience in concept and detailed design of new bridges, in accordance with AS5100:2017 Bridge Design
  • Ability to provide technical advice and develop designs with a high degree of autonomy
  • Demonstrate close familiarity with TfNSW Bridge Technical Directions, Bridgeworks QA Specifications and other relevant technical standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form in order to influence technical decisions and outcomes

We are also looking for a Bridge Engineer who can help ensure the aging bridge stock can continue to provide vital connectivity for NSW customers. For the available roles in this category, they will need:

  • Experience in structural condition inspection and assessment of existing bridges in concrete, steel, wrought iron, timber, masonry and other materials
  • Familiarity with historical bridge design codes
  • Capability to carry out complex and detailed structural analysis using a range of modern software packages with minimal supervision
  • Prepared to travel for short trips within NSW several times a year

Essential Requirements:

  • A four year civil engineering degree from an Australian university or an equivalent overseas qualification acceptable for professional recognition within Australia.

Salary and Benefits

Engineering Level 3 ($130,623 - $ 142,750) per annum plus superannuation, flexible work arrangements & government flex leave (additional accrued leave)

Engineering Level 4 ($147,164 - $157,022) per annum plus superannuation, flexible work arrangements & government flex leave (additional accrued leave)
