Their mission is to be a courageous catalyst propelling Australia towards bold, effective action to have emissions plummet during the 2020s and hit net zero by 2035.

The Role

They are responsible for the development and delivery of high impact campaigns which drive significant change in how decision-makers, sector leaders and the Australian community think about climate action and help build the momentum for deep emissions cuts this decade. The Senior Campaigner - Energy and Transport oversees the development and execution of campaigns in the critical areas of Energy Transformation and Clean Transport, in partnership with dedicated Campaigners working on each program. This role involves coordinating campaigns and advocacy activity across all levels of Australian government - federal, state and local - and leading delivery of enabling tactics including research, community engagement, inside track advocacy, media and communications.

  • Mentoring the Energy Transformation and Clean Transport campaigners in the delivery of high impact campaigns
  • Contributing to reviews and updates to Climate Council strategy as these occur
  • Maintaining a high degree of environmental and situational awareness to proactively identify opportunities, risks and emerging trends in the political and economic context for Climate Council programs and campaigns
  • Identifying, building and leveraging strategic partnerships with key external organisations in the climate movement, union movement, business community and relevant industry sectors
  • Coordinating regular and ad-hoc reporting of Energy and Transport campaign activity (donor, board etc)
  • In consultation with the Head of Advocacy and fundraising team, identifying new funding opportunities for campaigns, with an emphasis on community activation and engagement
  • Managing day-to-day budget allocation and monitoring for Energy and Transport campaigns, within policy delegations.
