About the Role


Based in the Brisbane office and reporting to the PNG Non-Operated Commercial Manager, the main purpose of this position is to support all commercial activities that enhance the value of Santos non-operated PNG assets by developing and implementing commercial strategies to create value and optimize Santos’ position in PNG with respect to its non-operated business (PNG LNG, Papua LNG and the P’nyang project).


Accountabilities are delivered in line with the Santos company values and Santos Management System (SMS).  Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Support the PNG Non-Operated Commercial Manager in commercial negotiations for the PNG Non-operated assets, and for certain commercial negotiations, takes a lead role
  • Proactively seek opportunities for Santos to deliver positive commercial outcomes across the PNG non-operated assets
  • Manage and coordinate a wide range of commercial and joint venture activities, including the need to work collaboratively with various parts of the business as required, including Legal, Economics, MT&C and technical functions
  • Ensure a high level of knowledge and understanding across a wide range suite of existing commercial arrangements for non-operated PNG assets to ensure we are maximizing Santos value
  • Frame commercial structures and draft Term Sheets and Commercial Agreements for PNG Non-operated assets
  • Identify areas of existing commercial arrangements for improvement to optimise Santos’ value
  • Coordinate economics to inform negotiations
  • Write ATE’s and ATC’s for proposed commercial opportunities, and work collaboratively to seek approval
  • Proactively develop high quality working relationships with commercial counterparts at joint venture partner companies
  • Apply thinking in area of commercial and joint venture expertise – develop and deliver plans aligning to the company’s strategy
  • Understand team purpose and role accountabilities that need to be delivered
  • Contribute to delivering on cost reduction efficiencies and value creation strategies as directed
  • Effective and timely engagement and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement and drive efficiencies
  • Understand change and performance mindset and participate to achieve desired culture outcomes
  • Uphold and ensure compliance with all company standards and processes
  • Ensure compliance with and adherence to standards for EHS performance and behaviour consistent with Company’s environmental, and health & safety vision and policies and standards


About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, accounting, commercial law or a technical degree supported by relevant analytic, planning and commercial experience
  • Approximately 5-10 years oil & gas experience and demonstrated achievements in commercial, negotiations, business and strategy development
  • Experience in and capability to work in complex commercial and large organizational structures
  • Demonstrated high level communication (written and oral), analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure, handle competing priorities, meet deadlines and bring tasks to completion
