About the Position
The position will play a key role in the Data and Analytics team at Whispir. Working closely with the Director of Product Management, you will be owning and driving the data products including our Data Platform and ML/AI features, both externally and internally facing. You will also own and execute the team's product roadmap, identifying key opportunities for the team. You'll be a data evangelist, helping make data as a first class citizen, overseeing and finessing its full life cycle in the data supply chain, working with producers and consumers ensuring data is fit for purpose.
Similar to a traditional product role, however, instead of treating data as a raw material, treating it as a product.
This position will play a key role in championing data literacy across Whispir, raising awareness of the value data initiatives bring to internal and external consumers.
Key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, research, analytics, platforms, technology, infrastructure, AI & Machine learning, and data standardisation.
Key responsibilities:
- We empower our product teams to solve hard problems – customer problems and business problems – in ways that our customers love, yet work for our business. Our product teams are cross-functional and durable, generally composed of a product manager, a product designer, and several engineers.
- We staff our product teams with the skills necessary to come up with effective solutions that are valuable (our customers choose to buy or use), viable (the solution works within the many constraints of the business), usable (the user can figure out how to use) and feasible (our engineers have the skills and technology to implement).
- While the product designer is accountable for ensuring the solution is usable, and the engineers are accountable for ensuring the solution is feasible, the product manager is accountable for ensuring the solution is both valuable and viable.
- This means that the product manager must contribute to her product team a solid knowledge of the various constraints of the business – constraints from marketing, sales, service, finance, legal, and privacy are typical examples. The product manager must also contribute to the product team a deep knowledge of our users and customers, and the data about how our customers engage with our products. Finally, the product manager is expected to track industry trends and the competitive landscape as they pertain to her product.
- Takes the lead in defining goals for data that align to the broader company and product vision, and associated OKRs.
- Translating the requirements of large data initiatives into smaller, actionable pieces that can be delivered in lean slices of value.
- While each member of the product team may be accountable for a specific risk, we look for product managers that understand that consistent innovation is the result of each member of the product team contributing their passion and their ideas. The product manager must collaborate closely with her product designer and engineers to discover effective solutions, and then work together to deliver those solutions to market.
- While we empower our product teams to figure out the best solutions to the problems that need to be solved, we also hold those teams accountable to the results. Shipping is necessary, but not sufficient. We look for product managers that are not afraid of signing up for results, even when this means they have to work through others to achieve the necessary results.
- This job, as with the other roles on the product team, is an individual contributor role. You will need to be able to influence your teammates, as well as colleagues, stakeholders, and key executives, through your use of data and logic.
- This role will have you regularly assessing movements and trends within the marketplace conducting, mapping out data personas and consumers profiles, in addition to overseeing revenue modeling, positioning and pricing for data products.

Concepts you must fully understand and practice

Anti-patterns
- Don't ship features if you haven't shown them to customers and validated they are usable and desirable.
- Planning roadmaps without taking into consideration constraints is not good.
- Don't get stuck and not say something to the delivery managers or your managers.
- Don't ship things and neglect to measure if your ideas were effective using data.
- Don't spend too much time in meetings - it will drain your time away from things that really matter here. You should feel totally empowered to not have to respond to every slack message, every email or attend every meeting.
