About the role

Based in the Brisbane office and reporting to the Team Leader Reliability - PNG Upstream this role is responsible for providing holistic engineering support to operations on a wide range of electrical, instrumentation & control topics and devise/implement medium to long term strategies to increase plant/well reliability and mitigate against obsolescence. This role will enhance service quality/equipment reliability through defect elimination processes as well as identify and be accountable for mitigating against key equipment vulnerabilities. This role is accountable for investigating any serious to critical events related to electrical and instrumentation though industrial investigation methods i.e. RCA and deliver final reports with agreed to solutions for implementation into the business.

The Senior E&I reliability engineer is also accountable for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance and production through continuous improvement practices i.e. bad actor resolution, management of change (MOC) and reliability-based methodologies i.e. RCM, FMECA. This role will act as the SME and Technical Authority and owner of E&I maintenance strategies and actively facilitate continuous improvement initiatives. This role is accountable for the medium to long term EEHA inspection and defect management as per AS/NZS60079. Periodic site travel is expected.

Accountabilities are delivered in line with the Santos Management System (SMS), Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA) and Corporate Governance and Safety requirements. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing technical advice and support on electrical, instrument and control engineering for the field operations and maintenance teams.
  • Improving and optimising Electrical, Instrumentation, Control systems maintenance strategies and methodologies using continuous improvement practices and reliability-based methodologies to enhance equipment reliability (RCM, FMECA)
  • Devising medium to long term strategies on obsolescence, key vulnerabilities and EEHA inspection/defect management as per AS/NZS 60079
  • Developing, reviewing, and approving maintenance procedures to ensure ongoing safe operation and maintenance of equipment in line with legislation and corporate standards.
  • Leading investigation for serious to major EI&C related events and develop final report for loading into process safety management system.
  • Providing proactive technical surveillance on EI&C equipment; reports and acts upon anomalies.
  • Acting as point of contact for all external regulator and joint venture (JV) audits
  • Coordinating with technical engineering/projects on production replacement and improvement initiatives
  • Providing technical expertise, governance and oversight to the EEHA management system i,e, inspections, dossier management including equipment registers and IS calculations
  • Raising management of change (MOC) items for reliability-based implementations and own to closure.
  • Defining annual budgets relating to reliability and maintenance engineering initiatives
  • Acting as SME for non-safety critical PM change requests deriving from anomalies identified in CMMS.
  • Leading junior and graduate E&I engineers with an objective of mentoring PNG national engineer development.
  • Providing E&I engineering support for emergency action plans arising from critical site events
  • Promoting a value for safety and implements company’s health, safety and environment and security policies to maintain a safe working environment.

About you

The successful candidate will be degree qualified in Engineering with at least 10 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering in upstream oil & gas and related industries (engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance/reliability). The ability to have EEHA level 1 Installation & Maintenance certification and has ability to become Chartered engineer – CPEng or an IEPNG member are advantageous.

To be successful in this position the ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls engineering fundamentals, reliability work process fundamentals (RCA, FMECA), reliability-based methodologies (RCM, PM optimisation), electrical power generation, distribution, protection systems and high voltage transmission lines, installation & maintenance of hazardous area electrical installations as per AS60079 and wide range of instrumentation such as pressure/temperature transmitters, guided wave radars and actuated valves. Working knowledge of electrical arc flash, process control instrumentation and installation/repair of electrical equipment; troubleshoot, scope, supervise and Honeywell safety systems and Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and competent in the use of ERPs/CMMSs (SAP preferred) is desirable.
