Senior Equity & Employee Relations Officer

Position Number: Pool Ref 00717

Level/Salary: Level 5, $90,047 - $98,994 p.a. (PSCSAA 2021)

Work Type: Permanent - Part Time, Permanent - Full Time, Fixed Term - Full Time, Fixed Term - Part Time

Branch: Equity Unit

Location: Perth

Closing Date: 2022-12-09 4:00 PM

This is a pool recruitment process (Ref 00717). This pool will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill ongoing fixed term contracts, secondments, acting/relieving and permanent opportunities (full and part time).

There are currently three (3) full time permanent positions within the Equity Unit.

  • Do you have experience dealing with conflict resolution?
  • Do you have knowledge and understanding of equal opportunity, diversity and bullying concepts in the workplace?
  • Do you have strong written and verbal skills?
What is the role?

We are looking for a motivated individual who can consult and provide advice to Western Australia Police Force (WA Police Force) management and employees on equity, disharmony and workplace behaviours affecting health and safety, including complaint and grievance management and employee relations (ER) matters.

The role requires:
  • Strong written skills
  • Interest in complaint management and conflict resolution
  • Understanding of how to deal with people in difficult situations
  • Knowledge of how to read and apply relevant legislation
  • Ability to communicate well with team members and stakeholders
  • An eye for detail
  • Willingness to conduct presentations
Please review the attached Position Description Form (PD), for further information and requirements.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please ensure you complete, sign and scan the Integrity Check Consent Form (refer attached) and submit it along with your application (the Integrity Check Consent Form is not required for current WA Police Force employees).

Applicants are not required to address the work related requirements at this stage of the selection process.

Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the Key Accountabilities of attached Position Description Form.

Whilst applicants are not required to address the Essential Work Related Requirements of this position as a separate document, it is important that within their CV applicants are able to satisfy the ‘context’ requirement in relation to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of equal opportunity, diversity and bullying concepts in employment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements relating to unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and workplace bullying issues.
These particular Essential Work Related Requirements are an integral requirement and will hold considerable weighting when determining whether an applicant is competitive.

The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

Please note: For applicants deemed suitable, all Essential Work Related Requirements listed in the Position Description Form will be assessed at some stage during the selection process.

OTHER CONDITIONS

In addition to the above mentioned vacancies, a POOL is being created to fill future vacancies that may arise within the metropolitan area. This POOL will remain active for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial appointment. Applicants who are assessed as ‘suitable’ at the completion of this process, will be placed in the POOL and may be considered for future permanent and temporary vacancies as they become available.

Once an applicant from the POOL accepts a permanent position via this selection process, that applicant will be removed from the POOL. Applicants who accept a temporary vacancy will remain in the POOL and will continue to be considered for permanent opportunities as they arise.

Where an applicant in the POOL declines an opportunity (either permanent or temporary), that applicant may forfeit their right to be considered before other suitable applicants who were identified to be less competitive.

Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
