Job Description
- Contribute to strategic planning and achievement of business unit goals by developing solutions to improve financial capability and respond to issues, trends and opportunities
- Manage and co-ordinate range of complex financial management activities aligned to business needs including: development and maintenance of the relevant University's financial policies and procedures month-end and year-end reporting and analysis, review and maintenance of the University's financial reports and analytical reviews related to Assets including leased, owned tangible and intangible assets
- Role out and excellent understanding of new Accounting Standards and amendments required to the University's assets reporting
- Manage and develop a highly trained, motivated and efficient direct report with a focus on service excellence
- Manage and co-ordinate a work environment of continuous review and improvement activities relating to financial management practices, processes and service provision
- Undertake and oversee actions to support business decision-making including complex analysis to inform financial capability, operating performance and business growth opportunities
- Manage and advise on risk issues associated with assets reporting and utilisation and changes to compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, business protocols and standards
- Oversee capital projects, including assets under constrictions, complex lease arrangements, management of stocktakes and other financial management initiatives and changes to practice in response to legislative change or advances in technology
- When required prepare relevant submissions to the relevant University's Committees
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with other relevant business units, functional areas and key staff, including provision of expert advice
The Senior Financial Accountant- Assets and Reporting will be-
- CA/CPA Qualified
- Experience from a Professional Practice would be desirable but not essential
- Financial and people management skills and substantial experience and capabilities in statutory reporting and analysis, systems improvement, financial control, financial analysis and monitoring in a large and complex organisation
- Current knowledge of accounting standards and legislation and ability to apply these in complex financial operating environment
- Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with experience establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated financial, auditing and investigative skills, including the use of current computer aided software, reporting and financial systems
- Staff management experience with the ability to motivate and develop high performance team
- Excellent numeracy, analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to quickly assimilate new concepts and information and deliver positive, innovative solutions
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate and build consensus at levels and including those with varying levels of financial literacy
- Experience working with large integrated commercial finance systems and reporting software along with excellent computer literacy skills such as Microsoft Excel
