MNG’s most recent Business Unit is MNG SubSpatial, which specialises in the application of applied geophysical techniques to image a variety of complexities hidden within the subsurface. This very new and vibrant small team has an employment opportunity for a Senior Geophysicist to join our team in either our Melbourne or Perth Office on a full-time basis.

This role will suit an applicant that is motivated to join a new business unit, assist in its growth, and promote innovation. The Senior Geophysicist is a critical role, responsible for providing exceptional quality sub-spatial services to our clients. This role requires the application of technical knowledge and cutting-edge skills to a range of field and data processing activities in accordance with contractual obligations.

What you bring to the table

You are a highly motivated individual who can contribute to the team in a positive and proactive manner. You will be responsible for:

  • Geophysical data acquisition of various near-surface geophysical techniques within Australian cities and regional locations.
  • Compliance with MNG’s policies and procedures, including health and safety within the fieldwork environment.
  • Geophysical data processing experience, competency in any of the following: Golden Software Surfer, Seequent Leapfrog and Res2DInv, Geolitix, AutoCAD, Rayfract and/or SurfSeis.
  • Factual reporting, detailing the logistics of the geophysical investigation, presentation and discussing the results, including suggestions and limitations.

What else do we need from you?

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science (BSc) majoring in Geophysics.
  • Experience in acquiring geophysical datasets in the field and willingness to travel regionally for work.
  • Strong understanding of near-surface geophysical techniques, including but not limited to; seismic methods (MASW, Seismic Refraction, ReMi), electrical methods (ERI, VES and FEM) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
  • Manage project deliverables and operations for geophysical investigations within land development, engineering, and construction projects for operations throughout Australia on time and in accordance with budget.
  • Processing and interpretation of data using industry standard geophysical interpretation software. Integration of geophysical and geotechnical data.
  • Perform duties requiring the knowledge and experience of a Senior Geophysicist, including professional advice and support to clients and employees regarding geophysical investigations.
  • Identify safety hazards and report OH&S incidents.
  • Act as a mentor; support and provide technical guidance to other Geophysicists within the team.
  • Work in accordance with MNG’s Quality and Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
