The opportunity:

In this role you will work closely with participants and their families, health professionals and other key stakeholders to support and advise the person to exercise choice and control over the way in which their home modifications are designed and delivered. The successful candidate will support participants to maximise independence and safety in their home and aim to identify suitable options that will enable the participant to access their local community.

It’s an exciting environment where no two days are the same, but on a typical day you may:

  • Work with local coordination teams across Care, provide support and guidance on the assessment and review of the needs of participants balancing what is reasonable and necessary with a person-centred approach to facilitate a participants’ capacity to achieve their desired accommodation goal. l
  • Develop major modification recommendations and specifications that enable seriously injured icare participants and workers to return to their families and home.
  • Assess and approve home modification requests within delegated authority.
  • Provide support and guidance to approved external service providers including Building Modification Occupational Therapists (BMOTs) and Building Modification Project Managers (BMPMs).
  • Assist the Home Modifications Manager to monitor BMOT and BMPM performance through a provider management framework by developing and reviewing performance expectations to ensure quality services to participants.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of procedures, specialist knowledge guidelines, and policies and service standards the home modification program to ensure the appropriate provision of services to participants in a cost-effective manner.
  • Research and prepare advice on best practice in home modification delivery to participants to eliminate gaps in service delivery.

Your story so far:

  • Previous experience as an Occupational Therapist, experience in coordinating multiple stakeholders dealing with people and families experiencing serious illness, injuries or disability.
  • Proven experience scripting major modifications to the homes of the cohort of our participants.
  • A comprehensive understanding of home modifications and experience in assessment and review of home modification needs for people with severe injuries with complex and significant needs.
  • Highly developed critical reasoning skills to ensure a high degree of integrity in the decision-making processes.
  • Excellent communication skills – ability to build rapport and communicate complex information and create and nurture effective working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to set clear expectations and engage in difficult conversations in a simple and empathetic manner.
  • A current driver’s licence
  • Prepared to travel extensively in NSW and occasionally interstate to attend sites and meetings.
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing.
