About the Role
Undertakes a range of compliance-related activities, including inspections, planning and conducting investigations, and provide technical and educative advice to industry participants to enhance compliance standards. The role prepares reports and briefs of evidence for potential prosecution, disciplinary action into allegations of misconduct including animal cruelty or non-compliance with the Greyhound Racing Act 2017, other relevant legislation and the Rules of Racing.
Essential requirements:
- Experience undertaking compliance-related activities within a sensitive and/or high volume regulatory environment.
- Incumbents need to meet requirements to be appointed as an Inspector under section 68 of the Greyhound Racing Act 2017.
- Appointment and ongoing assignment is subject to the satisfactory participation in mandatory preemployment and ongoing probity screening, in accordance with the GWIC framework.
- Current valid NSW Driver’s License
- Willingness to travel and work evenings, weekend and public holidays under shift provisions
- Willingness and capacity to work with animals
- Undertake proactive property and intelligence led kennel inspections to ensure industry participants are adhering to the Greyhound Racing Act 2017 and relevant animal welfare regulations
- Plan and conduct investigations into alleged contraventions of the Greyhound Racing Act 2017, including conducting formal interviews and obtaining witness statements as instructed by the Chief Inspector and Deputy Chief Inspector; collect evidence and/or prepare timely and accurate investigation reports and briefs of evidence to support enforcement decision making and prosecution of matters.
- Resolve breaches and offences in accordance with policies and operational guidelines; prepare Work Directions to correct non-compliance issues; prepare recommendations for targeted enforcement action or referral to external agencies in response to more serious breaches, such as alleged criminal matters (e.g. RSPCA, NSW Police Force, Local Government, etc.)
- Provide technical and educative advice to industry participants to enable them to meet compliance standards
- Maintain accurate records and provide timely reporting in relation to inspections and compliance issues; answer correspondence and address complaints within required timeframes
- Participate in disciplinary processes conducted by the Commission, including giving evidence in Disciplinary Hearings, Appeals and in Local Court Prosecutions.
