Join this large government body as a Senior Java Developer to provide a range of technical services supporting, maintaining, enhancing, designing, building, testing and deploying java applications assigned to their service. You will be responsible for providing technical services across a range of applications, with a strong focus on maintaining service quality at or above agreed targets.
This role provides technical services to aid in the design, implementation and maintenance of Java software as well as improvements in technical practices for software development and system integration.
Key activities
Maintains application support processes, and checks that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures
Use application management software and tools to investigate issues, collect performance statistics and create reports
Ensures that incidents are handled according to agreed procedures
Analyse causes of incidents, and informs service owners in order to minimise probability of recurrence, and contribute to service improvement
Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes and services Determines problem fixes/remedies
Take technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software development
Adopts and adapts appropriate software development methods, tools and techniques selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches
Measure and monitor applications of project/team standards for software construction including software security
Skills, knowledge, and experience
Significant experience in a similar role, supporting, developing, maintaining and improving a complex application portfolio in a multi sourced environment
Strong JAVA programming skills
Experience in enterprise application systems analysis and development, including: analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation and support with a thorough understanding of the Service Delivery Lifecycle
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to manage end-to-end support and resolution processes for assigned tasks through in-depth analysis, review and application of expert knowledge
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with strong customer focus
Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, work accurately with attention to detail, and meet deadlines
Experience in and knowledge of different technologies and products, including; J2EE, HTML, XML, SQL, Spring, Hibernate, JSP, CSS
