About the Role

 

Western Australian Iron Ore currently have a vacancy available on a permanent basis for a Senior Laboratory Analyst to join the team working in the new Port laboratory which is a fully automated, robotically driven facility.  You will be a motivated, inclusive individual capable of providing quality results. The Roster is 12hr plus handover, on 4D:5X5D:4X5D:5X rotation.
 

Reporting to the Supervisor Laboratory, your responsibilities will include:

 

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Drive and encourage accountability and culture within the team, promoting positive relationships. 
  • Monitor and operate the Laboratory equipment and systems to provide sample analysis results.
  • Report cargo analysis results and generate CoAs.
  • Liaise with multiple departments and maintain inter department communication pathways
  • Monitor the Laboratories assays accuracy and escalate any non-conformances.
  • Perform the Laboratory quality control tasks to the quality defined in Laboratory procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Identify, and within training and competency, resolve equipment faults to maintain equipment availability.
  • Escalate and propose continuous improvement initiatives and diligently implement changes.
  • Execute planned work tasks in a timely manner as scheduled.
  • Provide Leave cover for Lab Analyst, including Nightshift

 

About You


To be successful in this role you will possess the following: 
 

  • Bachelor of Science, preferably Chemistry Major desirable, or minimum Cert IV Lab Techniques
  • Numerical aptitude required
  • Effective communications skills, along with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Experience in the mining industry and experience with laboratory instrumentation including XRF, is preferred
  • Experience operating automated robotic equipment highly desirable
  • Familiarisation with ISO quality management and Iron Ore analysis standards advantageous
  • Demonstrated competence with computer-based ordering and work management systems such as SAP is desirable
  • Positive can-do attitude with a willingness to learn new skills
  • An open C Class driver’s license

Location

This position is based at Port Hedland. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in Northwest Australia.  This position is offered as a residential role or FIFO from Perth.
