As a Senior lawyers you will support the Practitioner Discipline Unit to deliver the Victorian Building Authority's (VBA) core disciplinary functions by providing solicitor (advisory, advocacy and process) services across disciplinary processes and case managing complex legal activity relating to the conduct, performance and practising ability of building and plumbing practitioners regulated under the Building Act 1993.
Under the guidance of principal decision makers within the team, the senior lawyers apply principle or procedural fairness, administrtive law, legislative interpretation, corporate governance and probity in assessing discipline matters, perparing statutory notices and otherwise supporting the process.
Who we are looking for
- Admission or eligibility for admission to the legal profession in an Australian jurisdiction (that is, an Australian lawyer) is required.
- Proven experience working within a disciplinary or prosecutorial setting, applying principles of procedural fairness and impartial decision making to disciplinary or investigative processes within a regulatory regime or law enforcement environment.
- General all-round legal capacity, with excellent conceptual, analytical and systematic thinking skills, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, examine evidence and make sound recommendations.
- Sound working knowledge of administrative law, the law of evidence and the principles and procedures that apply to practitioner discipline and best-practice case management strategies.
- Strong self-management skill, with the ability to deliver under pressure while maintaining impartiality, objectivity and professionalism and taking a strong ethical stand to protect against conflict of interest.
