About Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT

At , our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory. We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School and the University Department of Rural Health.

Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce. All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health to develop and implement high-quality research, mentor early career researchers, and provide support to coursework students and higher degree students. As a leader of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research in the Australian Central Corridor, the Senior Lecturer will contribute to the development of the workforce by planning the delivery of topics offered by Rural and Remote Health. The Senior Lecturer will also work alongside colleagues to coordinate workflows and to strengthen partnerships with external stakeholders to provide improved teaching, learning and research outcomes.

Research responsibilities of the role include:

Making a high-quality personal contribution to research and community service through original and innovative contributions, obtaining competitive research grants from outside the University and sustained publications within high quality publications.

Working alongside colleagues to actively engage in ethical, high quality and innovative research through activities such as scholarship, quality publication, external grant acquisition, , Honours and/or Research Higher Degrees and deliver high quality presentations that aligns with the College areas of research strength and focus.

About You

To be successful in this role you will lead a positive working culture, committed to improving educational opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and supporting the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan. You understand challenges relating to career pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and you hold demonstrated experience in developing culturally safe practices in tertiary education and research. You have an established reputation in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health research, including high-quality publications and contributing to the discipline externally through the wider community (locally or nationally).

You will also demonstrate:

A completed a PhD, or equivalent qualification; as well as a track record of participating in effective research collaborations with external local and national partners.

Teaching expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health at a tertiary level and experience in innovation in teaching to support students to maximise their learning.

Oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including evidence of the ability to develop, establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, and external partners.

Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (desirable)

Qualifications and/or registration as a health professional (desirable)
