The primary function of this role is to provide an effective prosecutions service, including by providing high quality legal advice, assessing briefs of evidence and appearing in sentences and hearings for suspected offences under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
This position reports to the Director, Workers' Compensation Prosecution Services.
Key responsibilities
- Autonomously maintain carriage of a caseload of referrals with respect to suspected breaches of the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, with limited supervision;- Review allegations referred and conduct appropriate further investigations in order to make a recommendation as to whether there are reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution;- Provide high quality legal advices in relation to Workers' Compensation prosecution matters;- Attend in person or by telephone call-overs and mentions;- Prepare for and appear at sentence hearings;- Instruct the Team Leader/Principal Legal Officer or external counsel in more complex prosecutions;- Contribute to improvising systems and work practices.
