About the team


The Customer Strategy and Technology division (CST), leads the development of long-term, multi-modal strategies, plans and policies across NSW. We leverage data and insights, implement new technologies, drive innovation and build partnerships to provide customer-centred solutions.


Intelligent Transport Systems is a part of the Customer Strategy and Technology division of Transport for NSW. It is responsible for providing the smart infrastructure, real-time data and operational systems required to manage the transport network. Focussed primarily on delivering new capabilities through the application of advanced technology, we are a passionate group of technologists and delivery specialists intent on helping improve NSW through the delivery of our exciting Future Transport Technology roadmap.


The opportunity


Right now, we have a permanent career opportunity in the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) team within the Technology and Innovation Branch of CST for a Senior Manager Business Analysis to bring their Business Analysis practice excellence and people leadership skills to a newly established team, working on a large pipeline of brown and greenfield initiatives.


This team is responsible for overlaying and overseeing a large portfolio of work and the continuous delivery of its pipeline of cutting-edge technology.


This role will involve standing up a full centralised business analysis team and practice. Encompassing organisational assurance, recruitment/sourcing activities and establishing a Business Analysis Centre of Excellence.


Your responsibilities will include managing direct reports, matrixed resources, and several integrated vendor teams, embedded across an array of projects and programs to conduct business analysis activities. This includes technical, functional, transformational and process analysis domains.


In this role, you will also be required to build and lead a team of 3 direct reports and 8 indirect reports, as well as influence and guide a wider business analysis community in a matrixed environment.



What you will be involved in:


  • Lead, develop, deliver, and implement consistent and best practice business analysis methodologies, disciplines, tools and processes
  • Build and lead the Business Analysis team and practice
  • Design and deliver:
oportfolio pipeline views
obusiness plans, budgets and financial recovery models
oresource maintenance, utilisation, demand and downtime management
  • Motivate, encourage and inspire an expert, professional team with a clear focus on delivering planned outcomes and the continual development of individual team member capabilities
  • Build and manage relations with key stakeholders, internal and external to the ITS portfolio
  • Identify and build synergies and collaborations with other chapters and centres of excellence
  • Identify and pursue continuous delivery opportunities for the business analysis community, and more broadly the ITS delivery practice

About you


You will have appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or extensive equivalent professional experience that will include being a people leader.


Your experience will include delivering hands on business analysis across varied domains, including technical, functional, process and business transformation, in traditional and scaled agile environments.


You will have extensive experience procuring, augmenting, and managing third party vendor teams with the ability to navigate and influence their deliverables to the required timelines.


Ideally, you will have experience leading a Business Analysis team, people leadership and development.


As an individual, you are a forward thinker who has a passion to create and build a team and the capacity to maintain a constant alignment within a large portfolio of work.


BABOK and Lean Six Sigma experience and/or certification will be good to have.
